Testing for this position requires authorization from SILVERTON FIRE DISTRICT.

CANDIDATES MUST ARRIVE 25 MINUTES BEFORE THEIR SCHEDULED TEST. IF YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION TO TEST FROM SILVERTON FIRE DISTRICT, YOU WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO CONTINUE IN THE TESTING PROCESS.

Classification: Firefighter/EMT

Salary Information: To be determined upon contract ratification

Benefits Information: PERS 6% employee portion paid for by the employee, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, family health/dental insurance, employer paid HRA/VEBA contribution, sick leave and vacation.

Department Overview: The Silverton Fire District operates 5 fire stations within its diverse 106 square mile district and serves a population of approximately 20,000. The Fire District provides fire protection, rescue, EMS and responds to approximately 1100 calls per year.

City Information: Silverton is located in the County of Marion in Oregon. Our community is diverse with a wide range of permanent residents along with large numbers of commuters, part-time residents, and visitors. Each year about over 300,000 visitors come to our area due to the recreational activities that are available here.

Necessary Certifications:

Must be a high school graduate or have equivalent GED certificate.
Must be an Oregon EMT-Basic or higher.
Must be DPSST certified as NFPA Firefighter 1.
Must be a current member of the Silverton Fire District.
Must possess two years' experience as a volunteer firefighter.

Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers:
Felonies and Misdemeanors involving moral turpitude.

Driving Disqualifiers:
Poor driving record

Drug Use Disqualifiers:
Positive Drug Test

Volunteer Recruitment and Retention Coordinator/Firefighter/EMT:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be a high school graduate or have equivalent GED certificate
Must be an Oregon EMT-Basic or higher

Applications with a current Oregon State EMR certification may apply but must be certified as an EMT within the first year of appointment.

Must be DPSST certified as NFPA Firefighter 1
Must be NWCG certified as Wildland Firefighter 2
Must possess two years' experience in Fire/EMS Service
Must be able to perform mental and physical tasks essential to the functions as described in the job description
Must have good computer skills
Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable.
Must have a clean criminal history
Outstanding personal communications skills
Ability to pass a background investigation, DMV check, Credit check and drug test prior to final offer of employment
Must reside within 30 minutes driving time to the Silverton Fire District Main Station within 12 months of appointment.

NFPA Firefighter 2
NWCG Firefighter 1
NFPA Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator
NFPA Apparatus Equipped with Fire Pump(Pumper)

MEDICAL – PHYSICAL CONDITION:
If offered employment, the appointee must undergo a physical examination and must successfully complete the Silverton Fire District pass-fail physical agility test. The appointee must also successfully pass a drug screening test. Any of the following may be caused to rescind an offer of employment: 1) Positive results of the drug test, 2) disclosure during the physical examination of a physical condition which prevents the appointee from functioning as a Firefighter/EMT or other job function as described in the job description, 3) Failure to successfully complete the physical agility test.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:
New employee must reside within a 30 minute response time of a Silverton Fire District Main Station within 12 months of appointment.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD:
New employees shall serve a probationary period of one (1) year commencing with their first day of employment. During this period the District and employee shall confirm the employment decision and determine if further employment with the District is appropriate. Failure to complete the EMT requirement within the first year will be cause for discharge from probation without the ability to grieve or appeal.

FSLA POSITION:
An employee in this position is not allowed to be a volunteer. FSLA rules state that an employee may not volunteer back to their employing agency to do the same job for which he/she receives a salary. However, that does not prohibit an employee to provide assistance in other ways, such as support functions.
