Probationary Firefighter / Paramedic (Step 1)
Classification: Firefighter with Paramedic certification
Firefighter I or equivalent with Paramedic certification at time of application (National Registry and/or Washington State).
The City of Sunnyside is currently establishing an eligibility list to fill one current and up to four additional vacancies projected in January 2019. The Sunnyside Fire Department fills vacant career Firefighter positions from a pre-established hiring list. This list is built through National Testing Network and then certified by the Civil Service Commission. Interested applicants must have a current CPAT certificate at the time of hire. An unexpired CPAT certificate from any IAFF accredited agency will be accepted and must be uploaded with your PHQ to be considered. Pursuant to Civil Service Rule 8.27.03 Current Sunnyside Volunteer Firefighters in good standing may be awarded service credit preference points as part of the examination process.
Salary Information: 2018 Firefighter $56,055 (Step 1) to $68,107 (Step 5) per year plus incentives and premium pay. Firefighters with paramedic certification hired into this classification receive 10% of top FF salary as an EMS incentive pay once cleared to function in Yakima County.
Benefits Information: This position is represented by IAFF Local 3542. Generous benefits include: 13 Kelly Days, combined vacation/holiday leave, medical, dental, vision and life insurance coverage for employee and dependents, and sick leave. Employees in this classification fall under the Washington State LEOFF II pension program.
Department Information: Established in 1905 the mission of the Sunnyside Fire Department is to provide a dedicated, professional level of emergency services to the citizens of Sunnyside and the surrounding area; to effectively reduce the loss of life and damage to property at incidents that do occur; and to provide proactive programs in fire prevention and public education.Based in the tenants of Trust, Duty, Honor and Integrity the mission of the will be accomplished through cooperative efforts and using available funding in a cost-effective manner, by seeking out and utilizing new technologies, partnership opportunities and ideas to meet the diverse needs of the Community; and by providing support, training, and encouragement to the members of this Fire Department.Today the Sunnyside Fire Department, a combination organization with 18 approved staff and over 25 volunteers is an all-hazards agency deploying resources for fire suppression, technical rescue, and hazardous materials mitigation as well as advanced life support ambulance transport services to much of the lower Yakima Valley. Our goal is to have exceptional people providing compassionate service capable to safely provide a rapid response to meet the needs of our community and the surrounding area.
