TheLewis County Sheriff's Office is currently hiring for Lateral Corrections Officer. The department will build an on-going eligibility list.
Salary Information: Base salary ranges from $3,302 (Step I) to $4,074 (Step IV), yearly step increases to year four, education incentive, longevity, and specialty pay depending on assignment. A lateral candidate will be placed at a salary step commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience
Benefit Information: Employer contributes $1,138 toward medical, dental, vision plan premiums, paid vacation and sick time, eleven paid holidays, deferred comp available.

Agency Information: The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) is a professional and progressive full-service law enforcement agency for the unincorporated region of Lewis County. The agency is organized into three Bureaus: Operations, Corrections, and Services that are overseen by the Sheriff’s Administrative Staff. Relative to other Sheriff’s Offices in the state, LCSO is an average-sized agency of 110 employees comprised of Deputies, Corrections Officers, Support Staff and Administrative Staff. Academy Certification: You must successfully pass all testing and examinations which measure ability to perform essential job functions. These tests may include but are not limited to physical agility, oral, skill, polygraph, psychological, medical, and background investigation.
Prior Experience: Completion of Corrections Officer Academy - Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission. Or in some cases, the Corrections Officer Equivalency Course.
Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors: Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers
Any unvacated felony conviction as an adult (over 18 years of age).
Conviction of any crime under a domestic violence statute.
Unlawful sexual misconduct.
Knowingly involved in the illegal trafficking (sale, transportation for sale or manufacture) of marijuana or any other narcotic or controlled substance.
Ever supported or participated with subversive individuals or groups that were involved in criminal activities.
Convicted of any misdemeanor involving theft, sex offense, moral turpitude, or violence.
Any act of domestic violence.
Incarceration for any reason.
Criminal conduct as an adult.
The applicant's association of persons having notoriety for involvement in criminal activity, unless satisfactorily explained.
The commission of any act evidencing unfairness, untruthfulness, cheating, dishonesty, or disrespect for the rights of others. The commission of acts evidencing recklessness or irresponsibility.
Use of a prostitute within the last five (5) years.
Adult misdemeanor convictions will be carefully reviewed.
Juvenile felony convictions will be carefully reviewed.
DUI conviction within last five (5) years.
More than one DUI conviction in lifetime.
Driver’s license suspended or revoked within five (5) years of date of application.
Multiple traffic infractions within the last five (5) years (i.e. no liability insurance, no driver’s license, or speeding).
Knowingly driving without a valid driver’s license or without vehicle insurance for an extended period.
Reckless or negligent driving within past five (5) years.
Drug Use Disqualifiers
Knowingly, or willingly, used within five (5) years of date of application or more than ten (10) times over any period of time period, the following drugs: Speed, methamphetamine, amphetamines, cocaine, heroin, MDMA, or any other illegal narcotic drug, (marijuana prior to December of 2012).
No hallucinogenic drugs such as mushrooms, PCP, LSD.
No unlawful possession of any controlled substance during the time of, or subsequent to, any employment with any criminal justice or law enforcement agency.
Being under the influence of controlled substance while working in any safety or security sensitive position.
Deriving income through the possession, sale or importation of controlled substances during lifetime.
Dishonorably discharged from the US Armed Forces.
Misrepresentation on an employment application.
Resigning in lieu of termination.
Fired from any law enforcement agency.
Significant non-judicial punishment in the military (i.e. Article 15 or Captains Mast).
Significant history of disciplinary or corrective action, including being late to work and abuse of unscheduled leave.
Unexplained frequent job turnover.
Negative personal or professional references.
Failure to pay income tax or child support.
Unresolved credit accounts or items sent to collection will be carefully reviewed.
Financial or fiscal irresponsibility.
Prejudice or bigotry towards a class of people.
Falsifying official documents or knowingly giving false information.
Intentional deception in the selection process for any law enforcement agency.
History of behavior demonstrating anger control problems.
Pattern of fighting (verbal or physical).
Discriminatory action, including sexual harassment.
Untreated alcohol or substance abuse.
