Job Classification: Enforcement Deputy – Certified/Lateral
Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office is recruiting for multiple openings for regular full-time Lateral/Certified Patrol Deputy (Enforcement/Patrol) to serve and protect the public by enforcing local and state laws; investigating crimes and complaints relating to criminal law enforcement in the County; patrolling county roads, residential and business areas, and investigating traffic accidents. May be required to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays in 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts. Salary Information: $4365 - $6084/month anticipated at hire, depending on experience and position of hire. This position is a represented position through Teamsters Local 223. The current collective bargaining agreement (2019-2022) includes guaranteed 6% market adjustments and 2.5% cost of living adjustments annually each July (totaling 25.5% over three years), in addition to incentive pay for education, certification, and bilingual speakers.
Department Overview: Yamhill County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) is sworn to protect and honored to serve the nearly 110,000 residents of our county. Through mutually beneficial cooperative partnerships within our community, we are committed to problem-oriented policing with the goal of reducing the public safety concerns of our citizens and visitors. Yamhill County encompasses 718 square miles and includes the incorporated cities of Amity, Carlton, Dayton, Dundee, Lafayette, McMinnville, Newberg, Sheridan, Willamina, and Yamhill.
We provide correctional and courthouse security services, as well as 24-hour a day patrol of suburban and rural areas, including timberlands and waterways areas. The Yamhill County Correctional Facility is a 255-bed minimum/medium/maximum security adult corrections facility that includes a Work Release Center for up to 50 inmates. The Sheriff's Office patrols the unincorporated areas of the county, as well as several cities that have contracted with YCSO to provide law enforcement services. In addition, the YCSO has several specialized units including Major Crimes Response Team (MCRT), Marine Patrol, Rural/Woods Patrol, Special Investigation Unit (SIU), and Yamhill County Interagency Narcotics Team (YCINT).
Enforcement deputies work varied 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts may include days, nights, rotating, on-call, holidays, and weekends.
Area Information: Yamhill County has a population of about 110,000 and is centrally located within close proximity to the metropolitan areas of Portland and Salem, a short distance from the mountains, and an hour's drive from the Oregon Coast. Yamhill County currently owns and maintains 17 parks and open space areas totaling 216.8 acres where activities include: picnicking, boating, bird watching, small events and gatherings, fishing, hiking, and outdoor education.

Valid OREGON State Driver's License: An unrestricted state-issued driver’s license with the ability to obtain an Oregon driver license and a good driving record is required.
Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes. Yamhill County also offers bilingual incentive pay.
Vision: Must meet the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training requirements as detailed in Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) 259-008-0000.
College: Eligible for educational incentive premium based on satisfying education criteria.
Academy Certification: Lateral/Certified Deputy applicants must possess a Basic Police certification from the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training, and/or any equivalent out-of-state corrections accreditation recognized by DPSST.
Prior Experience: Lateral/Certified Deputy applicants must have minimum of eighteen (18) months of full-time employment. Applicants must also possess a minimum of Police Basic Certification issued by the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) or out-of-state equivalent. DPSST maintains authority to determine acceptable lateral transfer of out-of-state certification to Oregon.
