The Marion County Sheriff's Office is building an ongoing eligibility list for current and future Deputy Sheriff positions in institutions.

About the Position of Deputy Sheriff - InstitutionsThe Sheriff's Office is currently recruiting individuals to join our Institutions Division. We are seeking individuals to fill entry-level Trainee and experienced Certified Deputy positions. The level at which the position is hired will be determined by the Sheriff's Office, during the hiring process. To be considered for a Trainee or Certified position, please follow the steps below.

Salary Information:$23.66 - $28.52 Trainee Pay Rate*$25.99 - $34.78 Certified Pay Rate**Hourly rate negotiable. Posted rates do not include available incentives such as education, bilingual pay, certification pay, etc.
Bilingual Pay: Employees who are fluent in Spanish, Russian and/or American Sign Language and use these skills while on duty will receive an additional 5% per month after passing a Standardized Language Fluency test administered by Marion County.
General Statement of Duties: Under general supervision, maintains close security watch and supervises inmates at the county jail. Works in a 24-hour, 7-day week facility with rotating shift schedules and work stations. This may require working day, swing, and night shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime. Performs other duties as required.
Supervision Received:Works under the supervision of designated supervisors who assign work detail and review work for conformance to established procedures, policies, rules, and regulations.
Supervision Exercised:Supervises inmates. Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in thisclass. Incumbents in this class may also work as a Deputy Sheriff in either the jail facility ortransition center.

Physical Requirements: Sees close and distant objects within normal parameters; uses peripheral vision; sees at night and under dark or low light settings; demonstrates sufficient depth perception; differentiates between colors; uses olfactory senses; hears within normal range; speaks clearly; uses a loud voice to shout; sits; walks, stands and moves around in the work area for extended periods of time; climbs stairs and/or inclines repeatedly; bends, stoops, crawls and kneels; lifts and carries up to 50 lbs.; pulls and pushes up to 200 lbs.; opens doors by pushing with shoulder or kicking; reaches for and lifts up to 10 lbs.; turns neck and twists body 90º in either direction; works in an area with limited ventilation; uses chemical agents to quell disturbances/riots; works in an area that has chemical agents released into the air; works in a wide range of indoor and outdoor temperature conditions; writes legibly; grasps, handles and manipulates objects with hands; implements finger dexterity to manipulate objects; holds, aims and discharges firearms with sufficient accuracy to maintain minimum department qualifications; works flexible hours during the day and week; works day, afternoon, evening and night shift work; operates a motor vehicle; maintains a current Oregon Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record; meets DPSST requirements; and successfully completes all phases of the Oregon Physical Ability Test at hire.
