The Purpose of the Reserve Program is to supplement and assist regular sworn deputies in their duties. The Reserve Unit provides professional, sworn volunteer reserve deputies who can augment regular staffing levels.
All Applicants shall be required to meet and pass the same procedures as a regular Deputy Sheriff before appointment. This involved a thorough and in depth background check and a physical and psychological examination, including drug and alcohol testing.
Potential volunteers must also complete the Frontline test and the ORPAT test through National Testing Network (NTN) in addition to submitting the Sheriff’s Office Volunteer Application. Reserve Deputies will assist regular deputies in the enforcement of laws and in maintaining peace and order within Columbia County. This is an exciting and satisfying role for the person who wishes to serve their community.
