Hood River Fire & EMS is currently building an eligibility list for Firefighter Paramedics as well as hiring for one immediate opening. This position requires FireTEAM and a CPAT that is valid within the last 6 months. The list for this position is open and continuous and Hood River Fire & EMS is currently creating an eligibility list for future vacancies. As vacancies can occur at any time, the request for a list of candidates to consider can occur at any time or without notice.
Upon completion of the entry level exam and CPAT testing, all candidate scores areautomatically forwarded to Hood River Fire & EMS. Candidates who attain a passing score on both the entry level exam and the physical abilities test will be placed on the department’s eligibility list. Hood River Fire and EMS will contact candidates on the list and invite them to participate in other stages of the department’s selection process.
The department requires the candidate PHQ. You can access the account through your candidate account. The PHQ must be completed by the closing date or you may not be considered further in the process.
Salary Information: Salary per month $5,271 - $5,990 (including 9.0% paramedic incentive). The International Association of Fire Firefighters (IAFF) Local 3256 represents firefighter/paramedic positions.

Located just 60 mile east of Portland, Oregon Hood River is known internationally as a hub for outdoor recreation particular windsurfing, kiteboarding and mountain biking. It is also 30 minutes from major ski and snowboarding opportunities on Mt. Hood, Oregon’s at over 11,000 feet Oregon’s tallest mountain. Hood River has excellent schools, a charming and dynamic downtown with a growing art and cultural scene. There are a variety of housing opportunities available in Hood River area.
Hood River Fire & EMS has been serving our community since being organized in 1904 and is a full service Fire and EMS provider providing ambulance transportation. Our Ambulance Service Area is approximately 145 square miles (110 square miles in Hood River County and 35 square miles in Wasco County) responding to 1612 incidents in 2016 from one station. Our staff operate on a 48/96 A-B-C schedule.

Valid OREGON State Driver's License: Yes, or the ability to obtain by date of hire; must pass driving records check and, if hired, maintain a driving record that meets the City’s standard. Oregon law requires that an out-of-state license holder must obtain a valid Oregon license (with appropriate endorsements) within 30 days of becoming domiciled in the state (ORS 803.355).

Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors: A background investigation is completed for this position, which is more than a simple records check. While conviction and driving history are considered once a candidate reaches the background investigation stage of the process, there are other factors considered. For more information around Department of Public Safety Standards (DPSST) expectations for the background you can view OAR 259-009-0070.
Conviction history will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Typically the nature of the crime, time elapsed since the crime, and the nature of the position are factors that may be considered. The requirements set by the Department of Public Safety Standards (DPSST) will also be considered. Applicants may be eliminated base on their driving record if it does not meet the City and Department standards.
Drug Use Disqualifier: Must pass drug testing.
