The City of Avondale is accepting Entry-level applications for the position of Police Communications Dispatcher assigned to the Avondale Police Department. This is a full-time, FLSA non-exempt position, with benefits. Applications will be reviewed the 1st Monday of each month.
You must complete a City of Avondale Application and testing through National Testing Network to be considered further in the process.
This position answers 9-1-1 emergency calls for police, fire, or medical emergencies; obtains accurate, essential information to process each call according to established protocols; uses a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to enter all relevant information for dispatch; dispatches calls and information to police units via a mobile radio system; maintains an accurate status and location of police units, maintains a computerized log of calls for service and units dispatched; monitors city security and fire alarm systems received through alarm system and dispatches emergency units as appropriate. ENTRY-LEVEL: For Entry-level candidates, you must register for the National Testing Network's Emergency Communications Test. If you have taken the Emergency Communications Test within the last twelve (12) months and received passing scores (Call taker 63, Notes 63, Dispatch 62, Combined 64), contact the National Testing Network at 866-563-3882 or www.nationaltestingnetwork.com to have those scores submitted to the City of Avondale job opportunity. Applicants are responsible for the cost of the test unless a waiver is submitted through the National Testing Network.
Salary Information: $19.31 - $28.00 Hourly

High School Grad/GED: High School diploma or equivalency/Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.
Valid ARIZONA State Driver's License: Must possess a current Arizona Driver's License at time of hire.

Additional Requirements: Certifications and Other Requirements: 35 WPM typing certification is required. Provide proof of 35 WPM typing certification when completing employment application on-line. Passing pre-employment screening, including thorough background investigation, polygraph and psychological examination.
Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors: Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers: Had commission of a felony; had unlawful sexual conduct.
Driving Disqualifiers: Had your Arizona driver’s license suspended as a result of excessive traffic violations or any other act that would automatically suspend your driver’s license or received a suspended driver’s license from any other state as a result of similar circumstances.
Drug Use Disqualifiers: Used any hallucinogenic drug, including, mushrooms (exception: during religious ceremonies), and LSD.
Employment Disqualifiers: Had an inability to perform the essential functions of this position. Had any discharge from the United States Armed Forces other than an honorable discharge.
Financial Disqualifiers: Pattern of failing to meet financial obligations.
Additional Disqualifiers: Had any other conduct or pattern of conduct that would tend to disrupt, diminish, or otherwise jeopardize public trust in the law enforcement profession.
