The University of Toledo Police Department is announcing the recruitment of qualified professionals for the position of University Law Enforcement Officer (ULEO). Recruitment for this position will create an active eligibility list for current vacancies and for any future positions that may become available.
To be considered further in the selection process, candidates must obtain a score of 65% or higher in the Human Relations video portion of the Frontine National exam, and 70% or higher in both the Writing and Reading portions of the Frontine National exam.
In addition to NTN testing, all candidates must complete the NTN Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ). You may access the PHQ through your NTN candidate account. The PHQ must be completed on or before the testing closing date. Failure to complete the PHQ by this date would eliminate the candidate from further consideration.
Salary Information: $63,523 to $67,129 (starting annual salary dependent on shift assignment per UTPPA contract 2025-2027). Up to $83,287 after four years of service upon reaching Senior Patrol Officer status and $85,339 after six years of service upon reaching Senior Patrol Officer Status (dependant on shift assignment).

Department Overview: The University of Toledo Police Department (UTPD) provides 24-hour uniformed police services to both campuses serving a daily population of more than 12,000 students, faculty, staff, employees, patients and visitors.
All UTPD officers are sworn State of Ohio Peace Officers commissioned by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy. Police Officers are entrusted through the Board of Trustees in accordance with Ohio Civil Service Law and Section 3345.04 of the Ohio Revised Code. University Law Enforcement Officers have misdemeanor and felony arrest authority, as well as all other enforcement powers granted to peace officers in the state of Ohio. UTPD officers are subject to all training and education requirements established by the Ohio Peace Officers' Training Council and The University of Toledo.
UTPD officers require a professional demeanor, exceptional judgment, and the right disposition. Officers are selected through a comprehensive selection process and have demonstrated knowledge and skillsets through a rigorous field-training period. In addition to providing excellent police services, officers continue to train and gain knowledge throughout their UTPD law enforcement career.

College : Candidates preferred to have completed ninety-six (96) quarter hours / sixty-four (64) semester hours of college level academic credits from an accredited college or university (having earned a GPA of 2.0 or higher); OR education may be substituted with two (2) years of continuous active full-time law enforcement experience (as a state-certified peace officer) with a state certified law enforcement agency, but not required.
Academy Certification : It is preferred that candidates have a valid Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) certificate, be currently enrolled in an OPOTA-certified police academy, or be registered to attend an OPOTA-certified police academy, but not required.
