Area Information: The CCSO serves over 400,000 residents of the County with 385 employees. As the County's largest law enforcement agency the Sheriff's Office patrols the unincorporated areas of the county as well as several cities that have contracted with CCSO to provide law enforcement for them. The CCSO has many specialized units such as canine, motorcycle patrol, the dive team, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), search and rescue, narcotics investigation (SIU), detectives and Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT). The Sheriff's Office is also required by law to provide correctional facilities for the county and to offer support services to other agencies in the County, such as: the jail, parole and probation, transitional services, special units and occasionally personnel resources.

Necessary Certifications : Must be able to be certified as a Corrections Officer/Deputy by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.

WORK SCHEDULE :Jail Division: Six 12 hour shifts and one 8 hour shift per two week pay period (POA contract language cites exceptions to this schedule.) RECRUITING REQUIREMENTS ¬ KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY : Working knowledge of: Criminal attitudes and behavior patterns; purposes and methods of discipline as applied to persons under criminal confinement; use of equipment in identification and confinement of inmates; correct spelling, grammar and punctuation.Skill to: Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; control, direct and instruct inmates individually and in groups; understand, interpret and enforce institutional rules and regulations with firmness, tact and impartiality; read and interpret written material accurately and rapidly; promote socially acceptable attitudes and behavior of inmates; make rapid, effective and reasonable decisions in emergencies and take appropriate action; use computer to enter data, write narratives and reports; maintain accurate records; use basic electronic and phone equipment; use basic radio procedures; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the public, co-workers, and a variety of criminal justice officials and personnel.Clackamas County - Scholarship Request Form:Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office has recently joined in a partnership with The National Testing Network. The National Testing Network (NTN) allows applicants to take the law enforcement video and written test at any time at a NTN location and use those scores when applying with Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office for law enforcement positions.There is a fee associated with this service. However, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office does not want a fee to prevent any interested person from testing to become a Deputy Sheriff (Recruit & Lateral) or Jail Deputy (Recruit & Lateral). If you are interested in taking this test for a law enforcement career opportunity but are discouraged by the fee, please complete this Scholarship Request Form. The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office has scholarships available, if you have questions please call the Department of Employee Services at 503-655-8459. All scholarship requests go directly to the Department of Employee Services for processing and approval. The Sheriff’s Office will only be informed how many scholarships are granted for each recruitment cycle, not which applicants request the scholarship. Receiving a scholarship has no bearing on your scoring or testing outcomes. Upon acceptance, this scholarship is only valid for Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office. You will be notified of your acceptance and sent a voucher number. Please do not sign up for testing until you have received your voucher number.
