SALARY
$52,001.74 per year plus a $13,000.00 per year Paramedic Incentive pay.
Combined total salary of $65,001.74
WORK OBJECTIVE
Performs intermediate protective service work in fire suppression and providing emergency medical treatment including, but not limited to, medical emergencies, trauma emergencies, and patient transports. Plans, organizes, directs and controls fire/rescue and medical service functions within applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations; does related work as required. Work is performed under emergency conditions and involves an element of personal danger. Work is performed under regular supervision of a Fire Officer where applicable.
INCENTIVES/BONUS
(If no suitable Firefighter Paramedics apply, the Fire Department reserves the right to hire a Firefighter/EMT)
**Candidates who have work experience as certified firefighters for other Fire Departments will have their experience evaluated and, as a result, MAY be placed at an adjusted starting base pay rate.
Other additional incentives include (for qualified Firefighters)
Special Operations Incentive - $3,000 annually
Fire Career Track Incentives from $700 to $2,000 annually
Paramedic Preceptor pay of $1.50 per hour
Educational Incentive from the State of Florida – up to $1,320 annually

Voluntary Participation in 457 Deferred Compensation
On-site Health & Wellness Center offers FREE primary care services for employees and their dependents (age 10 and older) covered on the group health plan. Services include annual physicals and health screenings, generic pharmaceuticals, lab work, and diagnostic imaging.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. · Acts as a first responder to all types of emergency situations.
· Provides fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services for the city.
· Drives and operates fire apparatus, or other specialized department vehicles. Responds to alarms, and assists in entry, ventilating, and salvage work.
· Observes patient responses and maintains accurate and complete records. Prepares various reports and other documents.
· Ensures that equipment is fully prepared and functional at all times, and that adequate supplies are available for treatment. Performs general maintenance and upkeep of apparatus, equipment, and fire station.
· Assists with fire prevention inspections and pre-fire planning.
· Participates in continuing training and instruction program by individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled drills and classes.
· Performs other related tasks as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduation or its equivalent. Possession of a valid Florida driver license. Must be State of Florida Certified Firefighter and possess a Florida EMT or Paramedic certification. Applicants with a Florida Paramedic certification are preferred. Must meet and maintain all requirements for position as established by the City and the State of Florida. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Knowledge of elementary physics, chemistry and mechanics as applied to fire suppression. Knowledge of emergency medical care to the EMT level.
· Knowledge of fire suppression and rescue practices, fire prevention, principles, methods, and practices; local codes related to emergencies; state statutes, city ordinances.
· Knowledge of the principles of anatomy, physiology and chemistry in relation to the respiratory and circulatory systems.
· Knowledge of the principles and techniques of emergency care, including diagnosis, proper treatment and automobile extraction and transportation.
· Knowledge of the street system and geography of the City. Ability to operate medical equipment.
· Ability to perform fire suppression and rescue activities.
· Ability to perform pre-hospital emergency medical care to the EMT level of certification. Ability to read and interpret manuals, policies and other documents.
· Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with associates and the general public. Ability to keep records and prepare reports.

(www.nationaltestingnetwork.com). Candidates must achieve a passing score on the Fire Team test and the Work Attitudes Questionnaire (WAQ) must also be completed through your NTN account. A valid CPAT is required. All results must be made available to the City of Oviedo Fire Department before a final offer of employment is made.

Oviedo Fire Department is an active Fire Department that participates in numerous community-based functions, provides continual training opportunities, and responds to over 5,000 calls per year. Oviedo Fire Department also holds a Class 2 ISO rating. The Department currently operates out of two stations which house three Engines, a tower truck, two Rescues, a Battalion Chief, and other specialty equipment.
