The Oak Brook Police Department is continuously hiring for Police Officer positions.

Salary Information: Step 1 $81,663 (1/1/2025) - 130,542 (1/1/2027). Top pay reached after 7 years. Alternative officers will start on Step (not to exceed Step 4 of the Bargaining Agreement) based upon experience.

Area Information: DuPage County, proximate to Downtown Chicago and Airports, located at the I-88 and I-294 intersection.

Job Requirements

Age:
Minimum of 21 years of age. Be UNDER 35 years of age on the date of appointment, unless:

The Candidate has been previously employed as a policeman in a regularly constituted police department of any municipality, regardless of whether the municipality is located in Illinois or in another state; or
The candidate has served as an auxiliary police officer under Section 3.1-30-20 for at least 5 years and is under 40 years of age; or
The candidate has served as a deputy under Section 3-6008 of the Counties Code and otherwise meets necessary training requirements; or
The candidate has served as a sworn officer as a member of the Illinois Department of State Police. Note: A veteran shall be allowed to exceed the maximum age provision of this Section by the number of years served on active military duty, but by no more than 10 years of active military duty.

College requirement waived for Alternative Register Candidates who meet the Academy Certification below.

Academy Certification:
Meet the following criteria to be considered for placement on a Certified Police Officer Eligibility Register pursuant to 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6(h).

Prior Experience:
Previous continuous service as a Police Officer in any Illinois municipality, county, university, or state law enforcement agency for a minimum of two years.

Necessary Certifications:
Meet the following criteria to be considered for placement on a Certified Police Officer Eligibility Register pursuant to 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6(h):

Certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board as a certified full-time Law Enforcement Officer; -AND-

Previous continuous service as a Police Officer in any Illinois municipality, county, university, or state law enforcement agency for a minimum of two years; -AND-
In good standing in the Police Department in which the person currently serves or separated from in good standing with no adverse employment action; -AND- Eligible to be granted a waiver of basic training from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.

Additional Requirements:
No felony convictions (Note: a misdemeanor or serious traffic offense may also disqualify applicants from further consideration); Notification of changes in current employment or primary residence must be made as soon as possible to the Recording Secretary of the BFPC;

Hiring Process:
Written exam, oral interview, polygraph, background investigation. Subject to medical, drug, psychological, and Academy Power Test at time of conditional offer of employment.

Work Schedule :
All candidates will begin their career assigned to the Patrol Operations Division. The Patrol schedule is on a 12 hour, 14-day rotation schedule 2 on -2 off -3 on-2 off -2 on -3 off, with every other 3 day weekend falling on the weekend, compensated for an 84 hour pay period every two weeks. Patrol shifts generally start at 5:45 AM and PM and are bid annually by seniority. Candidates will be expected to rotate every three months while on 18-month probation that commences upon graduation from the police academy.

Some specialized units or divisions work an 8.4 or 10.5 workday to accommodate the 84 hour pay period.

Equipment Quartermaster:
All equipment, uniforms, body armor, and duty weapon provided by the department. Employees are expected to take reasonable care for equipment that will be replaced by the department upon request.
