Job Classification: Part-Time Firefighter
The Washington Township Fire Department – Dublin is hiring Part-Time Firefighters. The next selection process is in the Fall / Winter 2025. Candidates must test by September 29, 2025. The Township will email all candidates with a passing test score to schedule their Physical Abilities Test by October 2, 2025. The department requires the candidate to complete the Township’s Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ). NTN suggests completing the PHQ as soon as possible so there is not a delay in your process. All candidates must take and pass the FireTEAM National exam through National Testing Network to continue with the Township’s selection process
Salary Information:
· Starting hourly wage for EMT-B or I is $19.17

Department Overview: The Washington Township Fire Department is accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International, a distinction earned by meeting or exceeding performance standards in the areas of operations, training, equipment, disaster response planning, human resources, inspections, and public education.
With an ISO-1 PPC Rating, Washington Township is one of only sixteen (16) fire departments in Ohio and approximately 393 nationwide with an ISO-1 PPC Rating and CFAI Accredited.
Residents reported high satisfaction with each of the Fire Department’s service categories: 99% for Fire, 92% for Fire Prevention, and 98% for Ambulance/EMS. The Township answers over 7,000 calls annually.
The Department’s four stations are strategically located within the Township to facilitate quick response time for emergency calls to any part of our service area. All operate fire trucks, medic units, and have equipment for land, ,water rescues and one or more pieces of specialized equipment.
Area Information: City of Dublin / Located in Franklin, Delaware, and Union Counties
Population: Approximately 49,037 (per 2019 census information), increases to approximately 75,000 Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
Job Requirements
Age : Minimum of 18 years of age

High School Grad/GED :
· High school diploma, GED or equivalent required;
· Associate's Degree in Fire Science, EMS or related area preferred;
· Bachelor's Degree in related area plus.
Valid OHIO State Driver's License : Valid State of Ohio's driver's license with good driving record
Ability to Read/Speak English : Yes
College :
· None required;
Academy Certification :
· State of Ohio Firefighter Level II (240 Hour card);
· State of Ohio EMT-B certification r (Paramedic certification required for full-time position consideration)
Prior Experience : Entry-Level
Necessary Certifications :
· State of Ohio EMT-B certification (Paramedic certification required for full-time position consideration)

1. Hiring Process (Once you are within 3 months of possessing both the State of Ohio Firefighter II and EMT-B certifications)Written Exam

3. Two (2) Interviews Background Check Process ( BCI / FBI background, work and professional reference checks, education verification, Public Records Request to previous / current public sector employers to verify disciplinary and performance, physical examination with drug screen, psychological screening and a polygraph
4. Two (2) Day Orientation
Schedule : Part-time Unit Personnel are required to work the following to maintain employment in good standing:
1. Minimum of working 72-hours in a 28-day cycle without exceeding 1,500 hours annually;
2. Minimum of working every ninth (9th) day or every sixth (6th) day;
3. Minimum of working one (1) Township recognized holiday per calendar year (January 1st through December 31st);
4. Minimum of working one (1) weekend day each month.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
1. Knowledge
· Knowledge of fire hazards and related prevention and abatement methods;
· Knowledge of current EMS patient care practices and techniques;
· Knowledge of firefighting techniques, incident command system, and fire suppression equipment;
· Knowledge of the principles of fire behavior;
· Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures;
· Knowledge of administrative guides and established policies;
· Knowledge of Standard Operating Guidelines, Protocols, Directives, Policies and Procedures and Fire Ground Procedures;
· Knowledge of streets and roads within the first response district;
· Knowledge of EMS Protocols;
· Knowledge of personal computers and related fire service software applications (i.e. Firehouse software, Microsoft packages);
· Knowledge of driver safety.

· Ability to extinguish and control fire within accepted guidelines of the department;
· Ability to perform strenuous or peak physical activities during emergency, training or station maintenance activities for prolonged periods of time under conditions of extreme heights, intense heat, cold or smoke;
· Ability to maintain an acceptable knowledge level by participating in hands-on training and by studying department procedure manuals, state courses/manuals, nationally recognized fire service books, EMS protocols, emergency medical textbooks, and other material as approved by the Fire Chief;
· Ability to, at the scene of an emergency, receive instructions and accomplish duties in accordance with established standard operating guidelines and nationally recognized good practices;
· Ability to follow verbal and written instructions;
· Ability to read and write the English language;
· Ability to meet knowledge, health, and physical qualifications established by the Township;
· Ability to achieve and maintain an adequate level of physical fitness to perform the essential functions of the job.
· Ability to operate and use basic software such as Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint;
· Physical ability to perform essential job functions.
Working Conditions :
· Work is performed in the fire station while sitting, standing or walking and at emergency sites in varying and extreme weather conditions;
· When responding to emergencies, employees risk physical hazard from fire, smoke, chemicals, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and other hazardous materials, falling debris, unstable buildings, and extreme heat;
· Physical exertion is required to climb ladders, pull hoses, move heavy objects, and crawl through tight spaces;
· Administrative duties are primarily performed in an office environment that is normally temperature controlled with appropriate lighting;
· Employee may be exposed to some standard office environment hazardous materials detailed in the applicable material safety data sheets and to normal office-level room noise;
· Some travel to meetings, conferences and training is required.
Physical Conditions :
· Must satisfactorily complete pre-employment and annual physical examinations by a licensed healthcare provider identified by the Township;
· Must satisfactorily complete an annual mental well-being check-in by a healthcare provider identified by the Township;
· Must satisfactorily complete the Township’s annual physical agility test;
· Physical exertion is required to climb ladders, pull hoses, move heavy objects, and crawl through tight spaces; Physical effort is required to lift materials, equipment, and persons exceeding 50 lbs.;
· May be required to work at heights in excess of 100 feet;
· The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, except during certain firefighting or EMT activities when noise levels may be loud.
Additional Information :
· This position is a safety-sensitive position and is required to satisfactorily pass random drug screens;
· Must satisfactorily complete all Township background checks;
· This position typically is scheduled for 24-hour consecutive on duty and 48-hour consecutive off duty shifts.
