This is an INVITATION ONLY Process
Volunteer applicants may pick up an application at the District's Headquarters Station (Station 53), 1164 Race Road in Coupeville. The application will be available on the District's website in the near future. After application, the District will conduct a background check (criminal and driving record) and schedule the candidate for an oral board interview. If recommended by the oral board for advancement in the selection process, the applicant will receive an orientation to the balance of the process and will be provided with a voucher for the cost of the FireTEAM testing and CPAT testing through NTN. The department requires the candidate PHQ. You can access the questionnaire through your candidate account. The PHQ must be completed by the closing date or you may not be considered further in the process. Classification: Volunteer Firefighter and Volunteer Firefighter/EMT Volunteer Firefighters provide firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical services including, but not limited to: Fire control and extinguishment, driving and operating firefighting apparatus and emergency vehicles, rescue, medical treatment, training, station and equipment maintenance duties. Area Information: Whidbey Island, one of several islands in Island County, is located 25 miles northwest of Seattle and can be accessed via Highway 20 from the north over the Deception Pass bridge or by Ferry from Mukilteo or Port Townsend. Application Candidate’s application materials will be evaluated on the basis of experience, certification, and education.
Oral Board A panel interview will be conducted by CWIFR to determine the extent to which the applicant is a good fit with the organization. The panel will be comprised of three members representing the diversity of CWIFR’s members, one Full-Time Career Firefighter or Officer; one Part-Time Firefighter; and one Volunteer Firefighter or Officer. Candidates recommended by the Oral Board, will be provided with a voucher to cover the expense of the written exam and CPAT.
Chief’s Interview Candidates successfully completing written examination and CPAT may be selected for a Chief’s Interview. Based on this interview, the District may select the candidate for training as a Volunteer Firefighter or Volunteer Firefighter/EMT.
Residency Volunteer Firefighters must live or work within the district boundaries.
