PAY

POLICE OFFICER $30.80 - $37.44 per hour plus pay incentives.

SENIOR POLICE OFFICER $34.81 - $42.31 per hour plus pay incentives.

We value your experience and will consider compensation based on years of service with another agency.

ADDITIONAL PAY OPPORTUNITIES

Voluntary semi-annual bonus for qualified physical fitness tests
Intermediate (3.5%) and Advanced Department (3.5%) of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) certificates pay premiums
Bilingual Premium Pay (5%)
Advancement to Senior Police Officer range after 5 years of employment
Stability Pay (2%)
Assignment Pay (Detective rotation 10%)

SUMMARY

The Astoria Police Department is looking for motivated individuals wishing to make a difference in our community as a Police Officer by responding to calls for service, assisting community members, conducting routine patrols and investigations and enforcing laws and ordinances.

Strong ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse customers, employees, contractors, other agencies, public officials and the general public.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other law enforcement personnel and the general public;
Ability to learn, remember, and apply relevant laws, ordinances and court interpretations.
Ability to write clear, accurate and complete reports; identify and remember names, faces, places, and other details;
Perform calmly and effectively in emergency and high stress situations.
Ability to engage in rigorous physical activity, when needed.
Strong ability to perform departmentally authorized use of force techniques to affect the physical arrest of criminal suspects.
Advanced ability to operate firearms and equipment safely, skillfully and in conformance with applicable laws and regulations.
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
Ability to use stationary portable and mobile radio, telephone, computer, video and radar equipment.
