Entry-level Paramedics and Lateral Paramedics
North Kitsap Fire and Rescue (NKFR) is establishing a hiring list for entry-level and lateral paramedics to fill vacant positions as needed. Our paramedics fill a dual role as firefighters.
Candidates must complete the Fire TEAM exam and Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA), Parts 1 & 2. In addition, the district must receive a completed NKFR Application for Employment, available here, and proof of successful completion of the Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) to be considered.

A first review of NTN test scores and application materials will occur on November 18, 2024. Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in an ALS skills assessment and an interview process. The posting will remain open until filled. UPDATE: As of 12/16/2024, we are still seeking qualified applicants.

Once a conditional offer of employment is made, successful completion of the following is also required for entry and lateral candidates:
Salary Information: The salary for a top-step 2024 firefighter/paramedic is $9,776.95/month. Entry-level firefighters/paramedics start at $5,866.17/month. For 2025, a 3.0% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) will be applied to these wages.
Benefits Information: Generous Cafeteria Plan benefit package with a monthly benefit allocation starting at $1,276.81 that increases annually (for 2025, allocations will increase by 3.0%), LEOFF 2 retirement, 288 hours of annual sick leave, 216-486 hours of vacation depending on years of service, educational incentive, holiday pay of 144 hours.
Firefighter/Paramedics work a 48/96 schedule and are represented by I.A.F.F. Local #2819.
Department Overview: North Kitsap Fire & Rescue (NKF&R) is a fire protection district serving the communities of Hansville, Kingston, Indianola, Miller Bay, Suquamish, and Port Gamble S’Klallam on the northeastern tip of the Kitsap Peninsula. We provide all-hazards emergency response and community risk reduction services.
We responded to 3,726 responses in 2023 (10.2 calls per day), of which approximately 63% were emergency medical responses. Our services include public education and response to fire, medical, hazardous materials, tech rescue, and wildland fires. We are proud to serve in the protection of lives and property for the citizens of our fire district.
