The Jerome Township Division of Fire is currently hiring for Full-Time Firefighter/Paramedic! All candidates must complete FireTEAM testing through National Testing Network prior to August 31st, 2023.

The department requires the candidate PHQ. You can access the questionnaire through your candidate account. The PHQ must be completed by the closing date, or you may not be considered further in the process.

Salary Information: 3 year top out. Base Pay $50,717 ($75,431 top out) + medic differential and FLSA overtime.

Division of Fire serves an area of 55 square miles encompassing Jerome and Millcreek Townships with a population of over 10,000 residents. JTFD is comprised of 27 professional firefighters operating out of a single fire station. JTFD is currently in design and construction of a 2nd station to increase services and reduce response times within the rapidly growing community. JTFD serves a response area that includes single family homes, R&D Facilities, distribution facilities, restaurants, agricultural buildings, and a variety of other buildings. Minimum Position Requirements:

Certified State of Ohio Firefighter II
Certified State of Ohio Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (EMT-P)
- State of Ohio Emergency Medical Technician Basic
  - If candidate is currently in medic school
  - If candidate can obtain paramedic certification prior to completing the first year of employment.
Certified in Hazardous Materials Technician Training
- Required within 12 months of appointment to full-time status

Maintain a drug free lifestyle
Pass a pre-employment physical in accordance with NFPA 1582 and Ohio Police & Fire Pension
Pass an annual physical once program is implemented.

Duties, Essential Functions, General Expectations and Responsibilities:

Must be able to follow established township and division policies and procedures.
Must be able to follow orders and directions of the shift officer and/or Fire Chief.
Must be able to effectively work in a diverse environment with fellow firefighters from various backgrounds, beliefs, races, ages, genders, and ethnicities.
Ability to be honest, trustworthy, and dedicated.
Must be able to meet the requirements and function within the National Incident Management System.
Respond to various types of emergencies to include, but not limited to Fires, Emergency Medical Calls, Hazardous Material responses, and Technical Rescues.
Maintain knowledge of response area to include streets, fire department connections, and building configurations.
Ability to arrive for duty at the scheduled time and place.
Ability to lift, carry, or drag victims/patients from peril to a safe area.
Ability to lift heavy fire, EMS, and hazardous materials equipment.
Ability to perform physically and mentally demanding work for extended periods of time in all kinds of environmental conditions to include but not limited to extreme heat, extreme cold, high winds, icy conditions, muddy conditions, limited lighting, etc.
Ability to wear all assigned personal protective equipment and self-contained breathing apparatus.
Ability to survey a scene to conduct and apply a risk analysis to determine the best course of action to mitigate the incident.
Ability to effectively communicate via telephone and 2-way radio to relay observations, request equipment, or provide relevant information.
Ability to speak clearly and distinctly, to hear and be heard, understand direction, and effectively communicate with citizens and fellow division members while operating in areas of extreme noise and distractions.
Maintain a working knowledge of radio terminology.
Ability to operate all division of fire equipment to include but not limited to fire hose, nozzles, SCBA, pumps, extinguishers, AEDs, suction units, gas monitoring equipment, technical rescue equipment, ladders, forcible entry tools, ventilation tools, etc.
Must not have a fear of heights or using ground or aerial ladders.
Combat fires using appropriate extinguishing agent and equipment.
Ability to perform salvage and overhaul operations to preserve evidence and reduce damage to personal property.
Perform station tours and public relation events for the public.
Perform fire safety presentations for the public.
Perform equipment checks and maintain fire equipment in a state of readiness.
Provides Emergency Medical Care to the sick and injured.
Ability to be kind, caring and compassionate to patients, the general public, and fellow division members.
Drives and operates fire and EMS apparatus in a safe and responsible manner.
Performs hydrant testing, pre-incident plans, and safety checks.
Attend fire department training to maintain and improve knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Participate in daily training activities as a team member.
Ability to multitask when needed to resolve complex problems.
Ability to maintain confidential information.
Ability to handle constructive criticism and guidance form shift officers, senior firefighters, the fire chief, and fellow firefighters.
Perform general station duties and housekeeping as assigned by the shift officer and/or fire chief.
Maintain assigned personal protective equipment and uniforms.
Maintain personal hygiene and appearance to uphold the professional standards of the Jerome Township Division of Fire.
Maintain a proper level of wellness and fitness to complete job requirements.
Complete incident reports, daily logs, time sheets, training records, and other reports in an acceptable manner.
Ability to operate effectively as a member of a team and at time independently based on the situation.
Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other firefighters, supervisors, and the public.
Ability to use independent yet sound judgement as the situation dictates.
Ability to be flexible in a changing environment.

Difficulty of Work:
The difficulty of work can change at a moment’s notice from sedentary work to strenuous activities. The nature of firefighting is inherently dangerous and subject members to the potential for injury and in some cases death. Firefighters can be exposed to inclement weather, hazardous materials, extreme heat, extreme cold, violent situations, communicable diseases, fire, smoke, and a host of other elements that can be life threatening.

Probation:

All newly hired Full-Time Firefighters are required to complete a new hire orientation manual. Members will not be assigned to a specific shift until the new hire orientation is satisfactorily completed. The new hire orientation manual shall be completed within 6 weeks of the hire date.
The probation period for all full-time firefighters is a period of 1 year. This period can be extended as required to meet the performance expectations of the division.
