Job Classification: Youth Specialist II

The Berrien County Juvenile Center is currently hiring to fill multiple Youth Specialist II positions. The department requires the completion of their application which can be found here. They also require the completion of the IMPACT test through NTN.

Salary Information: $44,706.00-$57,057 starting salary

Duties: Under the supervision of the Berrien County Juvenile Center Director, provides for the safety, security, and well-being for residents, visitors, and staff within the detention facility. Supervises, guides, and counsels residents through daily activities within the framework of the residential and educational programs.

Job Requirements

Citizenship Required:
Must be legal to work in the United States

High School Grad / GED:
Mandatory

Driver's License:
Mandatory

Ability to Read/Speak English:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in unusual situations.

Vision:
The candidate must test his/her vision at 20/40 or better (Corrected).

College:

Requirements: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, social work, criminal justice, psychology, or related social services field.

Previous minimum of three months of experience in social services or juvenile direct care. Preference will be given to those with previous experience working with delinquent or emotionally troubled youth and/or families, which may have been in an intern or volunteer capacity.

Notes: Applicants that do not meet the minimum requirements for Youth Specialist II but have at least thirty semesters or forty-five quarter hours of college education, which includes three semesters or four-quarter hours of psychology may qualify for Youth Specialist ($41,130.52-$52,492.00 starting salary).

Additional Requirements:
Must have open availability to work any shift at a 24-hour facility (This WILL include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays). This position works on a rotating schedule.

Hiring Process:

Upon meeting the above qualifications, the applicant must:

Pass a background investigation to the County’s satisfaction.
Successfully pass an interview process with the Juvenile Center’s Interview Board.
Applicants must take and pass a pre-employment medical examination for a physically demanding job and a drug test paid for by the County, prior to the Juvenile Center extending an offer.
