Area Information:
Located in beautiful central Florida, the City of Winter Haven is the second-largest municipality in Polk County. With an affordable lakeside lifestyle, vibrant downtown, and a unique natural environment, Winter Haven is the destination to live, work, and play. Historically, Winter Haven was just what the name implies – a haven for those seeking an alternative to the harsh winters of the north. Winter Haven has 50 lakes within its borders, including the 24-canal connected Chain of Lakes. The Winter Haven lakes are a world-renowned spot for bass fishing and played a major role in the development and growth of water skiing as a sport. Water skiing was a way to promote Cypress Gardens, a botanical garden and theme park which opened in the 1930s, and in 2011 became the selected location for the Legoland Florida theme park. Legoland Florida has successfully retained some of the tradition and history of Cypress Gardens, by preserving the botanical garden and a water ski show. Additional family-friendly theme parks located within an hour of Winter Haven are Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld Orlando, and Busch Gardens Tampa.
