The Winter Haven Fire Department is currently seeking to establish an eligibility list for the position of Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedics.

Qualified Firefighter/Paramedics will be eligible for a $8,200.00 incentive following the Polk County Medical Director credentialing process.

Department Overview:

The Winter Haven Fire Department responds to all fire emergencies within the city as well as provides automatic aid and mutual aid when needed. This can be due to large or multiple emergencies that can exceed a neighboring department’s capacity and can receive those services in return when applicable. The Department has 75 uniformed personnel assigned to fire suppression operations. All fire engines are staffed with 4 personnel with a minimum of 3 at all times. All shift personnel work a 24-hour shift and have 48 hours off. All fire stations in the city have Advanced Life Support (ALS) fire engines that are staffed with two paramedics, one minimum at all times. All uniformed personnel are medically trained as EMTs or Paramedics.

Legoland Florida has successfully retained some of the tradition and history of Cypress Gardens, by preserving the botanical garden and a water ski show. Additional family-friendly theme parks located within an hour of Winter Haven are Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld Orlando, and Busch Gardens Tampa.

Academy Certification:
State of Florida Firefighter I and II certification in accordance with National Fire Protection Association, NFPA 1001, and Florida Statutes 633.34.

Necessary Certifications:

*Emergency Medical Technician in accordance with Florida Administrative Code Chapter, 64J-1008.
(Paramedic certification in accordance with Florida Administrative Code Chapter, 64J-1.008 and possession of ACLS is preferred.)

Additional Requirements:

Emergency Vehicle Operator Course Certificate (EVOC) - 16 hours
Valid CPR Card
National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS- 100, IS-200, IS-700 and IS-800.

Driver license suspended for non-payment of insurance or for non- payment of traffic fines more than twice during the sixty (60) months prior to date of application.
Convicted of, or plead to fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer during the sixty (60) months prior to the date of application, or more than one (1) time total.
Convicted of any criminal traffic offenses, during the sixty (60) months prior to the date of application, or more than one (1) time total. *Accumulated more than twelve (12) points on the driver license during the thirty-six (36) months prior to the date of application, or have a driving record that demonstrates repeated offenses and flagrant disregard for traffic laws.
Convicted of a felony offense or any misdemeanor offense classified by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement as constituting adverse moral character.
Used, tried, tasted, experimented with, or possessed cannabis within the twenty-four (24) months prior to the date of application.
Used, tried, tasted, experimented with, or possessed any illegal controlled substance classified as a Schedule III, IV and V substance within the twenty-four (24) months prior to the date of application.
Used, tried, tasted, experimented with, or possessed any illegal controlled substance classified as a Schedule 1 substance (except cannabis) or Schedule II substance within sixty (60) months prior to the date of application.
Used, tried, tasted, experimented with, or possessed any hallucinogenic drug, at any time.
Sold or delivered any illegal controlled substance, at any time.
