Testing is currently open for the Chillicothe Police Department for Entry Level Police Officer and Lateral Transfer Police Officer candidates. Interested candidates must take the FrontLine National exam through National Testing Network and complete the department job application, located here, to be considered further in the hiring process.
Salary Information: Per current FOP contract new Entry Level Officers will start at the FTO Step and new Lateral Transfer Officers with prior Law Enforcement Experience as a Peace Officer will start at corresponding step.

Area Information: Located one hour south of Columbus at the intersection of US Routes 23, 35, and 50, Chillicothe is a great place to visit and live. Chillicothe’s historic downtown is thriving, with new businesses ranging from coffee shops to restaurants to novelty stores to antique outlets and beyond. In fact, in 2019, the Appalachian Partnership for Economic Growth named Chillicothe’s downtown as having the best revitalization effort in all of its 20-county focus area. Outside of downtown, Chillicothe is home to major employers such as Adena Health System, Kenworth Trucks, Inc., and Glatfelder.
The City of Chillicothe was founded in 1796 along the fertile banks of the Scioto River. Chillicothe’s rich history, however, goes back much farther – all the way to 200 BC, around which time the Hopewell Culture built extensive mound structures in and around present-day Chillicothe. Later on, Chillicothe would become Ohio’s first (1803-1810) and third (1812-1816) capital city. During World War I, Chillicothe harbored Camp Sherman, where thousands came and prepared to fight in the war.
In addition to a thriving economy and notable history, Chillicothe is beautifully situated in the foothills of the Appalachians with many opportunities for outdoor recreation, including Hopewell Culture National Historical Park, Great Seal State Park, Junction Earthworks Nature Preserve, Buzzards Roost Nature Preserve, Scioto Trail State Park, and Yoctangee Park. These parks offer excellent opportunities for hiking, running, biking, fishing, disc golf, and camping.
With these economic, historical, and natural assets, Chillicothe’s 21,978 residents enjoy a great place to live. Chillicothe residents can even watch the City’s own frontier league baseball team – the Paints – or its famous outdoor production of Tecumseh. Local festivals – like the Feast of the Flowering Moon – and parades – like the Halloween Parade – only add to the fun. All in all, Chillicothe is the place to be.
