Specialty Opportunities: Upon successful completion of a one-year probationary period, Firefighters at VIFR can expand their skills and take on advanced operational roles:Rope Rescue Technician: VIFR has grown its rope rescue program, with two technicians assigned per shift and all career firefighters receiving operational-level rope rescue training.Rescue Swimmer: The department has a rescue swimmer program, with training offered through the regional fire training consortium.Wildland Team Firefighter: Firefighters have the opportunity to join the wildland fire team and deploy to fires statewide.
Position Details:
Title: Entry Level Firefighter/EMTAnnual Salary: $84,147.60Benefits: 100% employer-paid medical/vision/dental premiums, 4.5% base wage employer contribution to deferred compensation, VEBA/HRA, disability coverage, LEOFF II retirementSchedule: 2,532 annual hours, 48/144 work schedule with debit days
Requirements:
The FireTEAM test through National Testing Network (All Sections) and Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) must be completed within the past year, or by November 21, 2025. VIFR is a member of the South King Fire Training Consortium. Firefighter I, II and EMT Training will be provided though the SCKFTCF Recruit Academy, which must be successfully completed.High school graduate (or GED), at least 18 years old.WA State driver’s license (or able to obtain within 30 days).Tobacco and marijuana free at pre-employment screening.

Employment Disqualifiers
Evidence that the applicant has willfully provided false or misleading information during the application process, in his/her written application or Personal History Statement (through NTN) or has cheated during any testing in the application process will result in disqualification.
Additional
Any conclusion by an oral board panel, background check, psychological evaluation, medical examination, or Chief’s interview that indicates that the candidate is not well-suited for the position of Firefighter/EMT will result in disqualification.
