GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Department of Corrections is committed to public safety and high correctional standards, as well as a safe, supportive working environment for our employees. We now seek Correctional Officers for our institutions: Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins, Wyoming, Women's Center in Lusk, Wyoming Honor Farm in Riverton, Wyoming Honor Conservation and Boot Camp in Newcastle, Wyoming medium Correctional Institution in Torrington. This position is essential for maintaining the institution's safety and security and is considered a Law Enforcement position receiving the 20-year retirement package. This is an entry-level position, and career/growth opportunities are available.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

To maintain institutional safety standards, the position requires the following:

· Enforcement of rules and regulations.

· Responding to post orders of varied assigned posts.

· Supervising inmates in the performance of various jobs; modeling appropriate, pro-social behavior.

· Assisting in a variety of searches, including checking for contraband items.

· Observing daily inmate living, programming, work areas, and the perimeter fence line, reporting security violations.

· Conducting daily scheduled counts of inmates.

· Assuming duties of housing control centers, central control centers, and inmate living areas monitoring inmate movements.

· Becoming familiar with inmate names and characteristics for easier identification of inmate movements and infractions.

· Assisting in restraining unruly inmates, utilizing the minimum amount of force required.

· Assisting in transporting inmates within and off institution boundaries, including inter-and intra-state predetermined destinations.

· Assisting in processing newly incarcerated inmates or the appropriate out the processing of released inmates.

· Attending required training to perform duties at an acceptable level.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

**Must be at least 18 years of age,
**Must be a U.S. Citizen,
**Must have a valid driver's license
**Must not have a felony or domestic violence conviction.

KNOWLEDGE:

· Knowledge of security measures, techniques, and precautions necessary to maintain a safe and secure institution.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

High School or GED

Experience:

0-1 year of progressive work experience in a Correctional Setting

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

· Candidates must successfully pass a background/reference check, medical and psychological evaluation, physical fitness exam, urinalysis drug screen, and other pre-employment testing prior to appointment.

· Candidates must have the ability to work overtime as required and the ability to work on any shift, holidays, and weekends.

Job Requirements

Age:
18 years of age or older.

Citizenship Required:
Must be a United States Citizen.

High School Grad / GED:
Must have a High School Diploma or GED.

Driver's License:
Must have the ability to obtain a valid Wyoming Driver's License.

Additional Disqualifiers:

As an adult, confinement resulting from convictions totaling more than six (6) months within the last five (5) years.
Any conviction of the unlawful use, sale, manufacture, production or possession of a controlled substance within five (5) years immediately preceding the date of application.
Has a DUI conviction within the last year.
Providing false or misleading information during the application process or cheating during any phase of testing.
Is unable to obtain a valid driver’s license.
Has any criminal proceeding pending, is under investigation for a crime, or is currently on supervised or unsupervised probation.
Is unable to possess or carry a firearm.

Testing Process:
The WDOC conducts a series of pre-employment testing to determine suitability for employment as a Correctional Officer. These tests include:

React Test through Ergometrics
Physical Fitness Assessment: passing criteria is based on age and gender.

Sit-ups in a minute or less
Push-up in a minute or less
1.5 mile run

Correctional Security Inventory (CSI)
Job Interview
Fingerprinting

Applicants successfully completing the above tests will receive a conditional offer of employment and then complete our post-offer process to include:

Background Investigation
Psychological Evaluation
Medical Exam
Drug-test

Applicants successfully completing the post-offer assessments will receive a final offer of employment and are scheduled to attend basic training academy.
