Orange County Fire Rescue Department (OCFRD) is proud to be internationally accredited and maintain an ISO Property Protection Class 1 rating. OCFRD provides world-class fire rescue and full-service emergency medical services, to include transport, within the 800 square miles of unincorporated Orange County and four municipalities. OCFRD has 42 community-based fire stations, with two new stations planned in 2020. Orange County Fire Rescue is also the home department to the University of Central Florida, one of the largest universities in the country as well as the second largest convention center in North America. OCFRD serves a population of over 870,000 residents. As the theme park capital of the world, Orange County attracts nearly 200,000 daily visitors.
Firefighters have numerous promotional opportunities, along with opportunity to join one of the many elite specialty programs including the rescue diver/rescue swimmer program, the special access climber program, squad technician program, EMS bike team program, or the unmanned aerial system unit. OCFRD has a reputation of providing excellence in our continued training programs for firefighters and offers sponsorship to firefighters to obtain their paramedic certification. Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)The CPAT is the initial physical ability test for potential fire rescue candidates. This is a timed test based off of eight components. This test is offered on a monthly basis for those interested in becoming an Orange County Fire firefighter, paramedic, firefighter recruit. Prospective candidates are encouraged to reach out to recruitment for additional information on the CPAT.
VOLUNTEER PROGRAMSBecome a Reserve FirefighterJoin the Orange County Fire Rescue Department Reserves to help reduce property loss caused by fire, hazardous situations, injuries, deaths, and other emergencies. This is a non-paid volunteer program designed for both certified firefighting personnel and civilian personnel. The Reserves provide participating citizens with a variety of duties that range from admistrative to actual firefighting. Get started by completing and submitting the Reserve Firefighter Application.
DIPLOMAS & DEGREESIf your education was obtained in the United States, the County recognizes degrees or diplomas which are accredited by an agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). If you have obtained education from a country other than the United States, your degree or diploma must be evaluated to determine the United States equivalency by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Service (NACES) or the Association of International Credentials Evaluations (AICE) at your expense.
