Position Title: EMT (Hiring List)

Skamania EMS & Rescue is seeking persons interested in establishing a position on our eligibility list for future full-time positions as a PARAMEDIC or an EMT.

Upon establishment of the list, one (1) full-time entry level EMT position will be filled immediately.

Department Overview: Skamania EMS & Rescue leads the county in emergency services and provides the essential services to preserve and benefit the health, safety and welfare of our unique communities. We provide specialty response to medical emergencies, vehicle, rope and trail rescues; in addition, we provide community education and outreach with professionalism, kindness and enthusiasm. Many rural communities make up our service area, including Washougal, Skamania, Stevenson, Carson, Home Valley, Underwood and other unincorporated areas. We average 1500 calls for service, and 900 transports each year.

County Information: Skamania County is located in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge and has a rich history born from the timber industry. The county is known for numerous popular recreation venues that are both scenic and rugged, including the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The county seat (Stevenson) is forty-five minutes east of the Portland/Vancouver metropolitan area.

SUMMARY

Under the Superintendent and/or Captain's supervision, the Emergency Medical Technician will perform duties associated with providing emergency medical care to the sick and injured in accordance with the Skamania County Medical protocols, all applicable laws, regulations, agency policies and procedures.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Possess and apply knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT}, in a dignified and compassionate manner. Primary functions include but are not limited to:

Administering emergency medical care based upon your level of certification, to patients in a pre hospital setting, in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards all while adhering to the Skamania County Medical protocols, agency policies and
Promptly respond to dispatch information in accordance with agency policies, and federal, state and local laws, regulations and standards.
Receiving and responding to requests for emergency ambulance service and other duties-related communication via two-way radio or other communication devices.
Completing Medical Incident Reports and all other paperwork associated with a medical/rescue call in a competent, accurate and timely fashion and submit it for processing in a timely manner.
Protect the privacy of all patient information in accordance with the agencies privacy policies, procedures, and practices, as required by federal and Washington State law, and in accordance with general principles of professionalism as a health care provider.
Performs daily vehicle inspections of response vehicles and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition at all times, are properly maintained and stocked for operational readiness. Cleaning, organizing and restocking vehicles so they are in a ready condition after each transport and washing vehicle whenever necessary during the
Maintaining accurate records of ambulance equipment and other emergency equipment and/or personnel dispatched to each emergency and non-emergency request and other operation and administrative data as required to maintain the operational continuity of the District and as directed by
Complete District required trainings and maintain compliance with the Skamania County Medical Program Directors, On Going Training and Education Program (OTEP).

Peripheral Functions:

Maintain a thorough working knowledge of local geography, which includes maps, streets, and grid book
Educating and/or training department personnel, EMS trainees and the public in a professional and courteous manner.
Representing the District while on duty at public service functions, expositions, and other public
If available, respond to calls while off duty or provide On-Call service as
Work to maintain and strengthen relationships with other county agencies as well as outlying agencies and medical facilities, maintaining professionalism at all times.
Perform other operational duties as assigned and which relate to the primary functions of the District; as designated by the Superintendent and/or
As needed duringabsences of the on duty Lieutenant or Captain, the EMTmay, as the mostSenior person on shift with the agency, temporarily step in to serve as the person in charge, planning, directing and coordinating the work of duty staff; make decisions related to emergency management and EMS operations for high priority, critical issue calls.

Prior Experience:
1 year or more of full time experience in providing EMT services in a pre-hospital setting, preferably in a rural community"' OR.., 3 years or more providing EMT service in a part-time or volunteer capacity

PREFERRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATES AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Current ACLS, PALS, PHTLS
Instructor certifications and/or teaching experience
NIMS 300,400 and 800
Motor Vehicle Extrication Training or Experience
Rope Technician 1/11 Training or Experience
Swift Water Awareness or Technician Training or Experience
Interest/Experience in Hiking and/or Search and Rescue Operations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to proficiently use medical equipment specific to the functions of the position, and standard office equipment related to incident reporting and other associated clerical duties.

Ability to work independently and efficiently with little direction. Must be a "self-starter,"proactive, responsive and resourceful.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, deal with rapid changes in deadlines and events, remain calm in stressful situations.

Ability to work with thepublic in a professional and courteous manner.

Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally, orally and in writing.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and other standard office or web based applications (e.g. Gmail, Google, etc.)

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed primarily in a rural community that requires frequent response or transport to local or regional scenes and facilities. Work is performed in fast paced, stressful environments which may limit or disrupt sleeping, eatingor rest patterns. This position requires weekend, holiday, and evening (overnight) work, with shifts primarily scheduled 24 hours on duty, 48 hours off duty. Employees are required to reside at their assigned station while on their scheduled duty shift.
