Job Classification: Patrol Officer Full/Part-time
The Rossford Police Department is currently recruiting for Entry Level and Lateral Applicant Full-Time and/or Part-Time Probationary Patrol Officers. Testing is ongoing, however, tests administered after May 15, 2026 will not be accepted for this round of hiring.
Candidates must also submit a Rossford Police Department application, located here, to the department by the closing date.
Lateral Applicants with a minimum of one(1) year of full-time service as an accredited police officer are not required to complete the written test or physical agility test to be considered for employment. However, they will be required to submit a city employment application which is available at www.rossfordohio.com. If selected, prior service credit for up to three (3) years may be given for wages and leave benefits.
The department requires the candidate PHQ. You can access the questionnaire through your candidate account. The PHQ must be completed by the closing date or you may not be considered further in the process.
Salary Information: $34.40 per hour current wage subject to negotiated contract. Hourly wages increase at 6 months, 1 year, two years, and three years. Upon promotion of probationary patrol officer, to the position of regular patrol officer, the officer shall receive compensation as determined by the collective bargaining agreement between the city of Rossford and the Ohio Patrolmen's Benevolent Association. The Probationary period is one (1) year. Top rate of $43.06 is achieved after three years. Officers working the afternoon or midnights shifts receive a $0.50 shift differential.
Uniform/Equipment Reimbursement: May be required to reimburse the City for uniforms and equipment provided at time of hire should employee depart service prior to 3 years of service on a predetermined scale.

Department Overview: The Rossford Police Department is a small department comprised of 1 lieutenant, 4 sergeants, one of whom is assigned as the Detective. There are currently 13 full-time patrol officers, 2 of which are assigned to the schools full-time. The Chief of Police is the administrator/CEO of the police department. An Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police is the only non-sworn employee of the police department. The police department serves a closely-knit community of just over 6,000 population. The members of the department work closely with each other on a daily basis and each officer is responsible for handling calls for service that range from traffic enforcement to criminal acts. The City of Rossford has very little serious crime yet maintains a consistent level of calls for police partially due to its proximity to the metropolitan area and multiple interstate and U.S. highways. The majority of police officers employed by the City of Rossford decide to remain here until retirement.
Area Information: The perfect setting: Rossford lies at the heart of the Crossroads of America, an area experiencing tremendous economic growth, located at the crossroads of Interstate 75 and the Ohio Turnpike. Rossford was incorporated as a village in 1939 and as a city in 1971. The City is a municipal corporation which operates under its own charter and is governed by a mayor and a seven-member City Council. Rossford is served by full-time police and part-time fire departments, dispatched from the Wood County Sheriff's Office.
The City maintains a Community Recreation Center and three parks, one of which, Veterans Memorial Park, features a seasonal marina along with picnic areas and diamonds and courts for baseball, tennis, basketball and volleyball.The Rossford School District recently completed construction of a new high school, junior high, and elementary school. All Saints parochial school for grades pre-kindergarten through eight also calls Rossford home.
The city boasts a public library and many service and community organizations such as the Rossford Business Association, Eagles Club, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Community service organizations sponsor annual activities such as Easter egg hunt, Halloween, Memorial Day parades and the Christmas tree lighting.The City of Rossford is part of the Toledo metropolitan area yet maintains a sense of small-town pride perfect for raising families with plenty of activities in the area including boating along the Maumee River, hunting, fishing, and camping.
