HIRING REQUIREMENTS & PROCESS:
This competitive testing process will measure candidates based on their written examination, oral interview, and qualifications.
Applications Due:
Completed applications must be received by 3:00 p.m. on October 10th, 2025.

All applicants must submit an application directly to ECFPD before taking the written exam.

ECFPD Part-time Application
Written Exam completed:
Applicants are required to take an online entrance examination. The online exam process will be open from 7:00 am on August 25th, 2025 until 3:00 pm on October 10th, 2025. The written exam must be completed prior to 3:00 p.m. on October 10th, 2025.
A weighted score of 70% is needed to pass the written exam including a 75% passing score on the human relations portion of the exam. Failure to pass the written examination will result in disqualification from the hiring process.
Oral Interview: Interviews will be scheduled, and applicants will be notified via e-mail of their interview date and time.
RECRUIT PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must be committed to completing a physically and mentally rigorous training program or possess current Illinois Certifications for Firefighter / EMT.
* Age: Applicants must have reached their 18th birthday by October 10th, 2025
* Citizenship: Must be a United States Citizen
* Language: Candidates must be able to speak, read, and write fluently in English.
* Driver’s License: Applicant must have (and maintain) a valid driver’s license. A copy of the license must be provided with application.
* Education: Applicants must provide proof of a High School Diploma / GED with application.
Disqualifiers:
* Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers: No Felony or Criminal convictions, probation or supervision.
* Driving Disqualifiers: Failure to have and maintain a valid Illinois driver’s license and good driving record.
* Drug Use Disqualifiers: Current use of illegal drugs/substances, Certain criminal drug convictions including but not limited to distribution of drugs, felony possession, etc.
PROGRAM ACCEPTANCE
Selection for conditional offers of program participation will be based on candidates successfully meeting the hiring process and scoring from the written examination, oral interview score, and successful completion of the below evaluations:
Background Checks: This will be conducted upon acceptance of a conditional offer of acceptance into the training program. Candidates must fully cooperate with this process.
Medical Physicals Will be scheduled for candidates who clear the background testing. The medical testing will include a drug screen, hearing, vision, and comprehensive occupational physical evaluation by Fire District physicians.
Upon acceptance into the training program, candidates must follow the established rules, adhere to all department policies and procedures, and continually maintain themselves in good standing for continued participation in the program.
