Department Overview: North Metro Fire Rescue District is a dynamic and growing all-hazards fire district north of Denver, Colorado, providing fire suppression, emergency medical services and patient transportation, hazardous materials response, technical rescue, wildland firefighting, airport operations, and community risk reduction. The fire district serves more than 125,000 residents in Broomfield, Northglenn and unincorporated areas of five counties, including over 60 square miles of commercial and residential space, highways, and a busy regional airport. North Metro Fire supports more than 130 line firefighters who respond to approximately 13,000 emergency calls annually. Firefighters operate out of seven modern fire stations, with two new fire stations planned for construction in the next five years. Age: Must at least 18 years of age

High School Grad/GED: Yes
Valid COLORADO Driver's License: Yes, must obtain prior to graduating academy.
Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
Vision: Yes
Necessary Certifications: EMT Basic or Paramedic
Hiring Process: Online testing, EMS Skills Assessment, General Assessment, Chief/s Interview/s, Phobia testing, Backgrounds, Medical/Physical testing. Hiring for firefighters is generally posted in the Spring and Fall. Check our website for further information.
Hiring Sample Schedule for North Metro Fire Rescue (Timelines are updated based on vacancies and hiring needs register for job alerts on our website to be notified by email when a position is posted):
· Late October - Candidates will be notified whether they are selected for additional testing and interviews
· Late Fall - Interview and testing process
· March - Pre-academy training with North Metro Fire followed by 16-week North Area Fire Academy
· Summer - North Area Fire Academy graduation followed by North Metro Fire EMS Academy and full-time employment on the line
Disqualifiers:
· Non-valid driver's license
· Admitted illegal drug use within last 2 years
· Previous decision to not hire candidate from established hiring list
· Previous unsuccessful employment with North Metro Fire. In addition, candidates who have ever been convicted of a felony, or who have been convicted of a misdemeanor within the last two years, will be subject to an individualized evaluation as to whether the criminal activity that formed the basis for the conviction should disqualify the candidate.
Fitness :
· Must be CPAT certified
· Requires a base level of physical fitness that focuses on general physical preparedness (GPP). This GPP reflects the demands of a career in the fire service, which is largely unpredictable and requires a base capacity in a robust skill set. Physical training drills in Academy and throughout your career include: functional exercises completed in short (anaerobic) to long (aerobic) durations. Exercises should include body weight exercises, weightlifting exercises, and exercises that develop cardiovascular/respiratory capacity.
