Position Title: Patrolman

Jackson Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Patrolman. All applicants must complete the FrontLine National exam through National Testing Network. All applicants must complete the Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) and the Public Safety Self Assessment (PSSA) located in your candidate profile on National Testing Network.

Salary Information:
$24.05 probationary/ hr
$26.53 Non- probationary/ hr

Shift Differential and Longevity additions to base salary as applicable.

******* A new contract through 2026 has been ratified and went into effect September of 2023.

Non Probationary Patrolman wage increases to $27.06 (2025) and $27.60 (2026)

Job Requirements

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Police Officers will be under the direct supervision of a police sergeant or police shift supervisor. New officers will be assigned to patrol unit for the purpose of protecting life and property; conduct crime prevention, enforcing laws and ordinances, arresting violators, making forcible arrests if necessary, investigating accidents and complaints, securing evidence and preserving the peace within the City of Jackson. Police Officers will be required to testify in court, as needed, and will be required to work irregular hours, weekends and holidays, and perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM APPLICATION QUALIFICATIONS:
The City of Jackson Ohio is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Applicants for the position of Police Officer with the Jackson Police Department must meet the following minimum requirements:

1. Must possess a High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent certificate;
2. Must have a current Ohio Peace Officer Certificate at time of application. A copy of your OPOTA certificate must be provided with your City application.
3. Must be between the ages of 21-35 years of age prior to original appointment
4. Must possess a valid Ohio Driver's License at time of appointment;
5. Must be a United States citizen; 6. Must be in good physical condition, as determined by a thorough medical examination as designed by the Civil Service Commission
7. Visual acuity must be correctable to 20/20 and vision must be free of color deficiencies with no disease(s) of the eye(s)
8. Must be physically capable of successfully performing the essential job functions of the Police Officer classification and be free of medical conditions that would preclude one from successfully performing said functions or would pose a direct threat to the health or safety of oneself or others;
9. Background must be free of prior felony convictions;

HIRING PROCESS:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Medical Examination - The medical examination is provided by the City and is conducted by a licensed physician selected by the City. It is administered to ensure the candidate has sufficient health and the physical ability necessary to perform as a Police Officer, and that no condition exists that would pose a threat to the health or safety of the candidate or others. The candidate must be certified as being in good general health and able to perform the full, regular, and demanding duties of a Police Officer. Though a standardized testing procedure is in place, the examining physician will be authorized to conduct any additional lab work, tests, or exams which he/she/ they believe are necessary to best determine condition of health. Candidates are specifically evaluated based upon the requisites of the Ohio Police and Fire Pension System.
