Position Title: Lateral and Entry Level Police Officer

The North Bend Police Department is currently has an open hiring process for the position of Lateral or Entry Level Police Officer until filled. Once the position is filled, the North Bend Police Department may begin building an eligibility list for future positions. Candidates are required to complete the following to be considered further in the hiring process:

Written Testing - NTN's Frontline National Exam or Free in-person POST Exam (see posting online for more info)
Physcial Testing - in-person ORPAT
Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA, accessed through your candidate account

Salary Information: $67,656.99 - $92,539.20 per year, DOQ; Lateral applicants would be eligible for a $5,000 hiring bonus ($2,500 after being hired and $2,500 after successful completion of probationary period) as well as the possibility of up to $1,000 moving expense reimbursement. Starting salary for lateral hires may be negotiable based on relevant law enforcement experience and CBA limitations. Lateral applicants will automatically be awarded an interview and are not required to complete the NTN or POST testing phase. In addition, if a Lateral applicant is hired, they will receive 40-80 hours of sick leave, the amount will be based off of years of experience and at the Chief’s discretion. Academy Certification:
Lateral Hires must have an Oregon DPSST police certification or out of state certifications that are able to meet reciprocity requirements for Oregon Certification. Most federal law enforcement and corrections officer certifications will not qualify for lateral officer requirements

Prior Experience:
Preferred, but not required

Additional Requirements:
Ability to pass a thorough background investigation, physical and psychological examination.

Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers

Felony convictions
Some Misdemeanor convictions
Domestic violence (DV);
Currently named as the Respondent in a Restraining Order
Crime of dishonesty; and/or,
Crime that resulted in serious physical injury to another.
Illegal manufacture, transport, or sale of a controlled substance.
Any repeated convictions of an offense which indicate disrespect for the law, a lack of good moral character or disposition towards violence and disorder.
Discharge from employment, where such discharge indicates poor behavior and/or an inability adjusting to discipline.
A Dishonorable Discharge from the armed forces.
