Position Title: Firefighter/Paramedic ONLY
Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue has continuous enrollment for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. Candidates are required to complete the following to be considered for the position:
Salary Information (2025): $90,947 to $116,075 per year (includes a 10% paramedic premium)

Department Overview: Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners with over 50 full-time employees, 10 part-time employees and 60+ volunteers. Services we provide include fire suppression and prevention, along with ALS and BLS transport. We have highly skilled training specialists, fire investigators, SCBA technicians, a public information officer, field training officers and a health and safety officer. Additionally, selected staff participate in a regional Hazmat response team. Area Information: Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue operates out of five locations and covers 150 square miles serving approximately 34,000 citizens in and surrounding Kelso WA (in Cowlitz County).

Preferred Qualifcation/Certifications: IFSAC FF1 certification (must obtain within 12 months of hire) and CPAT card (must obtain within 6 months of hire).Hiring Process:After completion of CPAT and the NTN exam process you will be placed on an eligibility list. If selected off of our eligibility list you will be invited to an interview panel. If selected to move forward you will be invited to a Chiefs interview.Disqualifiers:Applicants must successfully pass a background investigation and psych test, as well as a drug screen and physical. Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue has adopted a drug and tobacco free workplace policy that requires pre-employment drug testing and other forms of drug and alcohol testing as described in the District’s policy. Applicants cannot have more than 3 minor driving infractions and cannot have any DUI’s (this is an insurance requirement in order to be employed by our organization).Working Conditions:Our shift personnel work 48 hours and are off for 96 hours. Frequently assist with moving and lifting patients, standing, walking, bending, twisting, kneeling and crouching. Hand/eye/foot coordination required. Constant use of sight, hearing and speech abilities necessary to perform required duties. Fire scene standards of lift/drag 160 lbs up to 100 feet. Occasional stair and ladder climbing depending upon location and function. Fire scene standards may require climbing ladder up to 100 feet in height. More physical demands may occur during firefighting activities at a fire scene or during activities at the scene of EMS emergencies.
