Classification: Full-Time Police Officer
The Brimfield Township Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Full-Time Police Officer. Entry level candidates who are: 1) Not currently enrolled in an Academy, or 2) Currently enrolled in an Academy, or 3) Have completed an Academy and are OPOTA certified, but do not yet have a commission with a police department must complete the Frontline National Exam through National Testing Network. Our Department requires the candidate Public Safety Self Assessments (PSSA’s). You can access the assessments through your candidate account. NTN suggests completing the PSSA’s as soon as possible so there is not a delay in your process.
If you have already taken the Frontline National Exam through National Testing Network within 12 months of application to our Department, we will accept that score.
We will also consider Lateral applicants (Laterals are not required to complete the NTN examination. Please refer to the Employment section of our website www.brimfieldpolice.com for the Lateral hiring process).

Salary Information: $30.87 - $39.12 (new 3-year contract wiith new raises will begin in 2026)
Benefit Information:
Compensation: Our Officers progress to top step base hourly rate after only 36 months of service.
Signing Bonus: New officers hired are eligible for a $6,500 Signing Bonus within 30 days of appointment.
Extra Duty Compensation: $50/Hr. for all extra duty details.
Hours of Work: Full-time employees work 10-hour hour shifts, 4 days on, 3 days off.
Sick Leave: Officers accrue 4.6 hours of sick leave every 2 weeks to an unlimited amount. Upon retirement, our officers are eligible to “cash out” 50% of this accrued time bank.
Personal Time: Immediately upon hire, all officers earn 40 hours of personal time off each year.
Compensatory Time: Officers may elect to receive compensatory (comp) time off in lieu of overtime payment. Officers may accrue a maximum of 200 hours of comp time and may “cash out” 80 hours of time every year.
Court Time: Officers will be paid a minimum of 3 hours overtime pay, or earn 4.5 hours of comp time off, for court appearances on their off time not connected to their shift.
Holidays: The Township observes 12 paid holidays. All officers earn eight (8) hours of Holiday Pay for each holiday. Officers who work a scheduled shift on a holiday will receive compensation at 1.5 times their hourly base rate of pay for hours worked, or may take it in time off.
Vacation Leave: Our officers progress to 5 weeks’ vacation after only 15 years of service, 6 weeks at 20+ years of service: Full-time officers earn vacation leave according to the schedule below:
· Year 1-5: 2 Weeks
· Year 6-10: 3 Weeks
· Year 11-15: 4 Weeks
· Year 16-20: 5 Weeks
· Year 20+: 6 Weeks
Additionally, all officers are eligible to “cash out” up to 80 hours of vacation time every year.
Longevity: Our officers become eligible for longevity compensation after five (5) years of service. Longevity compensation ranges from $675 annually to $2,475 annually depending upon years of service.
Fitness Bonus: Officers are eligible for an annual fitness bonus equal to 1% of their annual salary.
Health Insurance: The Township provides a platinum zero deductible health insurance plan for all employees, whether single coverage or family plan health coverage. Our employees contribute 14% of the plan cost, which includes dental and vision and a pre-tax Health Savings Account (HSA) Additionally, for officers who elect to opt out of the Township plan, a bi-weekly stipend program is available that pays our officers extra compensation every pay period, up to 25% of the plan cost.
Uniforms/Equipment: The Township provides an annual cash payment uniform allowance to officers of $1,200.
Retirement Plan: All officers are enrolled into the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System – Law Enforcement (OPERS-LE) pension plan upon hire.
Ohio Deferred Compensation Plan: All officers are eligible to enroll in the Ohio Deferred Compensation program, a 457 investment program for public employees in the state of Ohio.
Officer Wellness Program: All officers participate in semi-annual wellness visits at no cost to our employees.

Prior Experience:Not RequiredHiring Process:Police Officer Selection Process Summary: Physical Agility: Entry level candidates must complete a physical agility assessment. The testing requirements consist of a vertical jump, sit-ups, 300-meter run, push-ups, and a 1.5-mile run. Please refer to the attachment for the minimum times & standards. Candidates who have successfully passed the OPOTA physical agility test from Academy attendance within twelve (12) months of application may have this waived. Panel Interview – Panel generally consists of representatives from the Brimfield Township Police Department. Background Investigation – The purpose of the background investigation and record check is to assist the township in reaching a determination regarding a candidate’s suitability for employment. Each candidate must sign a release authorizing the department to obtain personal, legal, civil, employment, credit history, or any other information deemed pertinent to the background. Candidates will submit fingerprints for state and federal screening. The background consists of verifying credentials, education, past & present employment, residence and driver’s license. Interviews with past and present employers, neighbors, personal references, and others will take place, as well as a review of each candidate’s history (i.e. traffic, criminal, civil, family, military, substance abuse, and social media). Polygraph Examination: A certified polygraph examiner will administer a polygraph examination to candidates advancing to this phase of the process. Findings of deception to relevant questions may eliminate the candidate from further consideration. Final Interview: A final interview with the Chief of Police to select a candidate or candidates for employment. Selected candidates will receive a conditional offer of employment, contingent upon successfully passing a psychological examination and a medical examination/drug screen. Psychological Evaluation: A qualified professional will conduct a thorough psychological evaluation. Each candidate will be administered a variety of tests to identify personality, emotional characteristics, psychological characteristics and attributes, and tendencies. Medical Examination and Drug Screen: The medical examination is to ensure a candidate possesses the general health status necessary to perform the essential functions of a police officer. Candidates shall not use a Schedule I drug, amphetamines, narcotics, or any other habit-forming drug, except such use as prescribed by a licensed medical practitioner. Background Removal Causes:
