Position Title: Entry Level Firefighter

The Del City Fire Department is building an eligibility for the position of Entry-Level Firefighter! Candidates will be required to complete the following to be considered for the position:

NTN's FireTEAM exam
CPAT
Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ)
Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA)

Salary Information: 50,000.00

Department Overview: Del City Fire Department was established back in 1948 and is small but progressive fire service department. Del City covers 8 square miles within a large metropolitan area that consist of OKC, Mid-West City, and large Air Force Base. DCFD calls for service averages 4100 annually and getting Busier by the year. We have mutual aid agreements with surrounding metropolitan fire department and part of the Oklahoma Wildland Task Force. Other fire department may assist us in large incidents and DCFD can also assist other fire departments in their large incidents when requested. Del City Fire Department has top of the line Fire Apparatus, Brush Pumpers, and equipment that compliment our fleet of apparatuses. Del City Fire Department has two (2) fire stations. Station 1 operates- One Quint 77’ Aerial Apparatus with a minimum manning of 3 personnel and One Rescue Unit with special rescue equipment with a minimum manning of 2 personnel. Station 2 has an Engine Company with a minimum manning of 3 personnel. Average daily call for service volume is about 15-20 per day with a variety of calls for service.

Necessary Certifications:
International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) Firefighter I Certification and National Registry Emergency Medical Tech.-Basic Certification.

Hiring Process:
Passing score of 70% approved written test and CPAT, Completed Application packet with required Documentation, Interview Panel, Optional, but highly recommended-Applicant 8 hour ride out for those selected to proceed through process, Fire Chief’s Interview, Conditional Job Offer.

Firefighter Job Requirements:

Possess a valid Oklahoma State Driver License and a driving record acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier.
Ability to pass a Physical Agility test and maintain this fitness level throughout employment.
Ability to pass State Mandated Physical.
Ability to pass psychological evaluation.
Must be between the ages of 18 - 45 at time of appointment.

FIREFIGHTING: The employee performs the following firefighting tasks relating to firefighting:

Uses fire hoses to attack fires.
Ventilates buildings as required using axes, pike poles and related equipment.
Covers articles not able to be evacuated from fires with canvases.
Observes for hidden fires by checking for glow, noise or heat.
Removes standing water using a squeegee.
Extinguishes grass fires using a portable pump, shovel and rake.

MISCELLANEOUS: The employee performs the following miscellaneous tasks:

Administers oxygen and cardiac pulmonary resuscitation to victims of fires and disasters.
Demonstrates fire safety precautions to schools and civic organizations.
Performs necessary painting as required by general maintenance of fire apparatus and equipment.
Cleans all facilities in living area and rig room.
Takes tests and participates in drills pertaining to firefighting and rescue.
Cleans fire hoses with a straw broom and water hose.
Views for evidence of arson and preserves evidence.
Performs other duties as required.
