Position Title: Deputy Sheriff

The Wheeler County Sheriff's Office is building an eligibility list for the position of Deputy Sheriff. Candidates will be required to complete the following in order for be considered for the position:

Public Safety Self Assessment
Personal History Questionnaire
Typing Test

Salary Information: $52,790.40 to $61,256.00

Benefit Information: Benefits package, including participation into a retirement compensation package, which has been performing better than PERS, medical, dental, PTO.

Department Overview: The Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office is comprised of the Sheriff, Undersheriff, and two Deputies. Our office Patrols 1719 square miles. We have 53 miles of the John Day River, two National Forests, and one National Park.

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT:

The Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office has an opening for a Deputy Sheriff in Wheeler County, OR. Minimum requirements are as follows: must be at least 21 years of age and a U.S. citizen, must have or be able to obtain from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training with preference given to Basic Certified and Advanced level of certification, a minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent, with preference given to applicants with higher education, the successful passing of any combination of written, oral and psychological tests and a background investigation and medical examination, the possession of a valid Oregon Driver’s License, and no criminal record. The successful applicant will demonstrate high moral character, and the ability to perform under stress and within a paramilitary management system. Residency requirement to live within Wheeler County, Oregon.

Wheeler County offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including participation into a retirement compensation package, which has been performing better than PERS. The minimum base salary for this position will start at $52,790.40 to $61,256.00 with consideration for certification levels, these wages go into effect after July 1st, 2022.
