The Department is divided into three shifts and spread across four geographical response areas, each under the command of a Battalion Chief. Each battalion includes four to six fire stations, totaling 20 fire stations throughout the county.
The Seminole County Fire Department is CPSE and CAAS-accredited. The department was also awarded the ISO Class 1 rating by the Insurance Services Office (ISO) for its protection of the unincorporated areas of Seminole County, along with the cities of Altamonte Springs, Casselberry, and Winter Springs that the County also serves under contracts. The ISO Class 1 rating is the highest rating given to a fire department regarding its ability to effectively respond to and prevent fires and applies to properties within five (5) road miles of a fire station. This means 99% of all the properties within the Seminole County Fire District receive this enhanced rating.
Seminole County hosts several special teams, e.g., Special Hazards and Operations Team, Bike Team, Burn Team, Dive Team, Urban Search and Rescue, etc.Great emphasis is placed on training, evidenced by the opening of the Seminole County Fire/EMS Training Center in 2008, a 44,000-square-foot facility situated on nineteen acres. The Training Center boasts various training props utilized during ongoing classes, including a 5½-story training tower, various hazardous materials training aids and scaled props, multiple full-size confined space tanks and tunnels, a vehicle-machinery rescue yard, a pressurized rail car, a box car, multiple gas-fed fire simulator props, forcible entry training props, a live burn building, an EMS/Sim-Man lab, a functional fitness center, and several multimedia equipped classroom spaces.
