Position Title: Lateral and Entry Level Police Officer
The City of Canby Police Department is seeking to hire and establish an eligibility list of entry level and lateral Police Officers to fill current and future full-time positions.
Certified Police Officers perform law enforcement and crime prevention work, including discovery, investigation, report preparation and patrol, to enforce federal, state and local laws. The Canby Police Department includes 30 sworn positions, including a Chief and two Captains. Officers have the opportunity to work in a variety of specialized units or specialized teams.
This is a full time, non-exempt position, represented by the Canby Police Association. The City provides an excellent benefit and compensation package including PERS and a matching contribution of up to two percent of the employee's pay for deferred compensation (457 Plan). The City also offers a variety of additional compensation opportunities for Police Officers such as Intermediate and Advanced Certificate Pay and Specialty Assignment Pay. The City offers a 5% pay incentive for written and oral proficiency in the Spanish language or any other language if spoken by over 10% of the total Canby population.
Lateral Level Requirements: Currently certified (or eligible to be certified upon hire) with Oregon State DPSST as a Police Officer and in good standing with their current and/ or previous department. Out of state- Certified as a Police Officer and in good standing with their department. Must have completed an equivalent police academy to the state of Oregon DPSST. Have completed a Field Training Program and off probation. Military Police, Federal Law Enforcement, Corrections and Parole/Probation DO NOT QUALIFY as a Lateral Police Officer. Canby Police requires a score of 70% or higher in reading, writing and Frontline National Video assessment to be considered for a position. Upon completion of the entry level exam and ORPAT testing, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to the Canby Police Department. Top Candidates who attain a passing score on both the entry level exam and the physical abilities (ORPAT) test will be invited to continue in other stages of the department’s selection process.National Testing Network does not replace the Canby Police Department’s responsibility and decision making in the testing process. All candidate results are provided to the Canby Police Department where the final decisions are made.
