The Lowell Fire Department is seeking candidates to fill entry-level firefighter positions. Applications are due by 4:00 p.m. CT on Friday, October 17, 2025. Interviews will be scheduled and positions filled on a rolling basis as qualified applications come in. One opening is available immediately, with additional openings anticipated.
Written Exam: Register for and pass the FireTEAM test (National Testing Network, NTN).
Physical Ability: Register for and pass the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT).
Local CPAT is administered by the Northwest Arkansas Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association. Information is available at NWA CPAT Testing.
CPAT from any certified IAFF/IAFC organization (including NTN) is also accepted.
Application: Complete the Lowell Fire Department application (online at lowellarkansas.gov/jobs or in person at City Hall, 216 N. Lincoln St., Lowell, AR 72745).Submit your completed application by the deadline.
Note: Candidates hired without an EMT certification must obtain a valid Arkansas EMT-B within 12 months of employment (or by reciprocity).
Starting annual compensation (FF/EMT): $44,593.
Starting pay may be adjusted based on full-time firefighting experience and/or relevant certifications (e.g., valid Arkansas EMS license; Firefighter I & II). EMS licenses from other states are acceptable if reciprocity can be obtained.

Conditional offer, contingent upon passing a physician’s physical exam, drug screening, and a criminal background check prior to start.

Two stations, responding to approximately 1,200–1,400 calls/year

Age: 18+
Citizenship: U.S. citizen required
Education: High school diploma or GED
Driver’s License: Required (out-of-state must be transferred within 3 months)
English Proficiency: Ability to read and speak English
Valid Arkansas EMT-B or EMT-P (or ability to obtain by reciprocity)
Completion of Firefighter I & II certification
Criminal: No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history
Driving: No license suspension/revocation; no DUI convictions
Drugs: No history of drug use or possession; must pass pre-employment drug test
Medical/Fitness: Must pass pre-employment physical and department physical abilities test
