Position Title: Corrections Deputy

Douglas County Sheriff is hiring for current vacancies and building an eligibility list for the position of Corrections Deputy. Candidates are required to complete the ORPAT and NTN's REACT exam.

Maintain order, discipline and security of inmates within the correction facility; check physical condition and arranges for medical attention; accompany inmates to court appearances, physicians, hospitals, etc.
Book, search, fingerprint and photograph incoming prisoners; issue personal property receipts; release inmates at the end of sentence; process security deposits and releases; maintain appropriate logs and records.
Answer questions and interpret policy and procedure for law enforcement officials, attorneys, inmates and families and the public.
Assure secure work environment to the courts, judges and support staff; conduct inspections of facilities; maintain appropriate logs and records; interpret policy and procedure.

Knowledge of: Considerable knowledge of policies, procedures and practices of modern law enforcement in areas of criminal investigation, laws of search and seizure, rules of evidence; considerable knowledge of federal, state and county rules, regulations and ordinances that govern law enforcement; considerable knowledge of general procedure used in court system and of the nature of legal evidence.
Skill in: Meeting and dealing with a wide variety of people; safe use of firearms, vehicles, mobile radio, computer and other communication equipment, and similar department equipment; report writing and statistical data compilation.
Ability to: Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms; conduct investigations; assist in preparation of cases for court; analyze complex law enforcement problems to enforce laws, and to think and act quickly; adjust to priority changes and remain calm during confrontational situations; make decisions independently in accordance with established policy and procedures and use initiative and judgment in completing tasks and responsibilities; courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees, other agency representatives, law enforcement agencies, judges, district attorney, clergy, schools, administrators and public.

Hiring Process:

Applicants must complete ONE of the following academic proficiencies:
- Successful recent (within the past twelve months) FrontLine test with National Testing Network (NTN).
- Possess a four-year, post-secondary degree issued by an accredited, degree-granting college or university recognized by the Oregon Office of Degree Authorization under the provisions of ORS 348-604.
- Successfully completed training resulting in the award of Basic Police certification from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST).
Applicants must provide the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office proof of successful completion of ONE of the following physical proficiencies from the administering agency:
- Recent (within the past twelve months) Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT) completed time from an Oregon Law Enforcement organization or authorized testing agency (NTN).
- Successfully completed training resulting in the award of Basic Police certification from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST).
