Position Title: Telecommunicator

The City of Berwyn’s Emergency Communications Unit is building an eligibility list through the National Testing Network for the position of Public Safety Telecommunicator. Hours and days of assignment will vary to meet the needs of the City of Berwyn. A Public Safety Telecommunicator receives telephone inquiries and requests for police, fire, and emergency medical services; provides pre-arrival instructions; dispatches personnel and equipment to scenes of fire, police, and emergency medical incidents and other public safety emergencies through the use of radio, telephone, and other methods. Duties include receiving and providing information promptly and efficiently, competent operation of automated communications equipment, performing related clerical tasks, and monitoring police and fire movement and locations.

A Public Safety Telecommunicator can be exposed to extreme stress levels during periods of high volume public safety activity. Individuals with prior experience are encouraged to apply, however prior public safety telecommunications experience is not required.

Salary Information: $56,016.99

Additional Requirements:

Ability to attain APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator certification within 3 months of hire.
Proficient computer skills.
Bilingual in Spanish is desirable, but not required.
