Fire District 3 is an expanding organization that responds to an average of over 5,000 emergency calls a year-70% of which are EMS-related. Fire District 3 operates by the core values of professionalism, safety, teamwork, integrity, community, and service. Operating from five strategically placed fire stations allows the Fire District to provide basic and advanced life support services in addition to fire response. Fire District 3 operates a three-platoon shift that operates on a 1-3-2-3 work schedule.
Fire District 3 is an all-risk response agency, meaning, that to the best of its ability, it will respond to any emergency-related situation (fires, rescues, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, natural and manmade disasters, etc.). Fire District 3 was legally formed in 1947 as authorized by Washington State statute (RCW 52.02.020). The district is governed under the policy-making direction of a three-member board of Fire Commissioners. Fire District 3 organizational structure consists of a paramilitary ranking system that currently has 55- full-time employees and maintains a pool of approximately 10 intern firefighters and one volunteer water tender operator. Fire District 3 is a Junior Taxing District and primarily receives its funds through property taxes, impact fees, grants, donations, and other sources. The district’s services span 90 square miles, including the City of Battle Ground and eight major unincorporated areas: (a) Hockinson, (b) Brush Prairie, (c) Venersborg, (d) Rawson Rd, (e) Heisson, (f) Battle Ground Lake, (g) Crawford, and (h) Lucia Falls. As reported by the Washington State Office of Financial Management the Fire District has 46,000 people who reside within Fire District 3’s response area.

When a vacancy for Firefighter or Firefighter Paramedic becomes available, the top candidates on the eligibility list are reviewed by the fire district administrative staff. Should the fire district administrative staff determine the need to review additional individuals on the eligibility list, this may occur before a selection is made. The finalist will be required to undergo an additional series of evaluations, which include a final interview, job-related medical exam, reference check, driving record check, background investigation for criminal convictions, a substance abuse exam, and psychological evaluation. Failure to advance in any of these evaluations will result in removal from the register. Examples of Duties:
Firefighters and Firefighter Paramedics provide basic and advanced life support and other emergency medical services to the public. They protect life and property threatened by fires, explosions, hazardous materials, illnesses, accidents, and other disasters. Responsibilities include emergency response, emergency preparedness, fire ground operations, fire prevention duties, training, instructing, operating fire apparatus and equipment, performing maintenance on apparatus and equipment, fire stations, and grounds.
Firefighters/Firefighter Paramedics work a 1-3-2-3, or 40-hour work week schedule as assigned and may be exposed to immediate danger to life and health atmospheres.
