Department OverviewKenton FD is the only paid Full-time department in Hardin County. We provide fire and shared EMS services to the city and fire services to 2 townships. We provide technical rescue services throughout the county including SCUBA/water rescue and confined space rescue. We also provide public education, fire inspections, fire investigation and public relations events. We pay for all required certifications and assistance for nonrequired classes. The annual run volume is over 1200 calls. We work 24-hour shifts using the California swing rotation, 24-hour shift every other day for 3 shift days then 4 days off, for a 56-hour work week.

Necessary Certifications: No certifications are required to apply. Will be required to possess or obtain Firefighter 2 and EMT-Basic certifications. A high school diploma or GED is required. A valid Ohio Drivers license that is insurable.

Preference Points/Application ProcessAfter reviewing the results of the written examination provided by the National Testing Network, the Civil Service Commission will compile eligible applicant names into an eligibility list. The Kenton Civil Service Commission offers the following credits to a 70% or higher test score. Military Veteran, 20% (DD214 required), Active Reserve, 15% (with proper documentation), Proof of the credit being requested must be provided with the City of Kenton Job Application.
