Salary Information: $32.40 per hour ($67,394) starting base salary. Upon completion of the probationary period. Wages increase every year, currently up to 86,045 (after four years of service) for the year of 2025. (Wages based on the current collective bargaining agreement). Department Overview: The Brook Park Police Department offers residents a wide variety of services. With a complement of 35 full-time officers and support staff, emphasis is placed on developing community programs that promote safety and well-being. The Brook Park Police Department works 12 hour shifts with one 8 hour day in a 2 week pay period. Programs such as motorcycle officers, Ride-a-long program, bicycle patrols, auxiliary police, K-9 unit, and other initiatives offer residents the service they should expect from their law enforcement professionals.

The selection process usually begins with a detailed background check and the completion of a detailed application. Candidates must also successfully pass a physical agility test conducted by tri-C. Once a conditional offer of employment is made, the applicant will be required to undergo a psychological exam and medical drug screen. Applicants without an academy certification will be sent to the academy at the expense of the City of Brook Park and will be paid the base salary.
Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors:Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers: Any felony conviction will disqualify a candidate.
Driving Disqualifiers: Alcohol and/or drug driving convictions do not automatically disqualify a candidate. However, it may be a factor when making a hiring decision. The weight that a prior conviction is given will depend on the circumstances and time since the conviction. Must be and maintain insurability under those standards set by the City's liability insurance provider.
Drug Use Disqualifiers: Prior drug use does not automatically disqualify a candidate but will be a factor in a hiring decision. The weight it is given will depend on the circumstances. Current drug use will disqualify a candidate.
Additional Credit: Any applicant for an original appointment who has attained a passing grade on the written examination, and who has completed one year or more of active duty in the service of the Armed Forces of the United States of America and has been honorably discharged there from, shall be given a credit of the five percent (5%) of the basic score attained on such entrance examination, the credit to be added to the basic score in order to obtain the final grade upon such entrance examination. In order to receive military credit, candidates are required to upload their Form DD-214 through their NTN account. Only those that show a minimum of one (1) year Net Active Service, as shown on the form, will receive the credit. Applicants who reside in the City of Brook Park currently for at least one-year, shall be given a three percent (3%) extra credit. Proper proof of one-year current residency in the City of Brook Park is verified by the Brook Park tax department. Applicants with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a police related field, i.e. Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, shall be given four percent (4%) of the top patrolman's salary pay once every year. Applicants with an Associate's degree from an accredited institution in a police related field, i.e. Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, shall be given two percent (2%)of the top patrolman's salary pay once every year, Maximum additional credit is set at ten percent (10%).
