Department Overview:
The Clinton Fire Department is a city department that contracts with the Clinton Fire Protection District for rural fire protection, and the Exelon/Clinton Nuclear Power Station for secondary fire protection. Clinton is located in DeWitt County, located in Central Illinois. We are centrally located between Chicago and St. Louis.
We operate out of one station that protects the city of Clinton and 70 square miles of primarily rural area with approximately 10,000 in population. Covered in the rural area are the villages of Lane and DeWitt, the Exelon/Clinton Nuclear Power Station, Weldon Springs State Park, Mascoutin State Park, and the majority of Clinton Lake (4900+ acres). We cover portions of US Highway 51, IL Rt. 10, and IL Rt. 54.
We provide Fire, Rescue, Hazardous Materials Response, Fire Prevention/Safety Education, Basic Life Support - Non-Transport EMS, and First Responder - Non-Transport EMS Services to all communities we serve.
We provide automatic aid to Kenney, Wapella, and Maroa fire departments. We routinely provide Emergency Medical Services alongside DeWitt County EMS and Heyworth Ambulance. On occasion, we will work with Logan County Paramedic Association, Decatur Ambulance, and Arrow Ambulance.
Clinton Fire is a combination full-time/paid-on-call department. Three full-time employees provide 24/7 coverage at the fire station. Clinton Fire is currently set up for 1 Fire Chief, 2 Assistant Fire Chiefs, 2 Captains, 3 Lieutenants, 3 Full-Time Engineers, 17 Firefighters, 1 Probationary Firefighter, 4 Back Up/Reserve Engineers, and 2 Junior Firefighters. The Fire Department answers to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety. The department roster can hold up to 42 members.
The three full-time employees are members of the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 3069.
