The Village of Lake Zurich Fire Department is hiring Firefighter/Paramedics. We currently have 6 open positions. Candidates are required to complete the NTN FireTEAM exam, PSSA, and PHQ.
This position requires the Candidate Physical Ability Test with ladder certification (CPAT with ladder) dated within the last 12 months and Basic Operations Firefighter(FFII) at the time of application. It further requires EMT-P certification at the time of hire.

Salary Information: $79,500 - $116,811 Annually.

Job Requirements:
Age: Applicants shall be under 35 years of age at the time of application unless exempt by State Statue 65 IL5/10-2.1, which provides in part, that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a full-time firefighter in a regularly constituted fire department of any municipality or fire protection district located in Illinois. Proof of previous full-time employment must be provided.

Vision: Must pass pre-employment physical
Academy Certification: EMT-P certification, Basic Operation Firefighter Certification (Firefighter II)
Necessary Certifications :
1. Basic Operations Firefighter (Firefighter II) from the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal.
2. Valid Illinois or Nationally Registered EMT-P. Applicants who are currently enrolled in a State of Illinois, IDPH-approved, paramedic program shall be allowed to complete the testing process. Applicants must provide proof of enrollment in the program by submitting a letter from the organization sponsoring their enrollment or from the course administrator, on their letterhead. Applicants must be a licensed paramedic at the time of hire.
3. This position requires the Candidate Physical Ability Test with ladder certification (CPAT with ladder) dated within the last 12 months at the time of application.
Employment disqualifiers: No felony convictions, probation, or supervision, and good moral character • Must pass a pre-employment medical exam, psychological exam, drug test, and criminal background investigation
Hiring Process:
1. Your Application: You must submit your completed application, PSSA & PHQ through the National Testing Network.
2. Written Examination: Successful completion of the National Testing Network’s FireTEAM exam
3. Candidates shall be placed on the Final Eligibility Register in the order of their relative excellence as determined by their written test scores plus the application of all preference points allowed by the Fire and Police Commission.
After the posting of the Final Eligibility Register, applicants may be notified of openings based on the Department’s personnel needs. Several remaining examinations, investigations, and interviews must be completed and passed before becoming an employee of the Lake Zurich Fire Department, as outlined in the following:
4. Oral Interview: Oral Interviews will be held at the Lake Zurich Fire Department, as needed. This is a structured interview with the Lake Zurich Fire & Police Commission. Applicants will be notified of the date and time of their oral interview by e-mail. PASS or FAIL
5. Background Investigation: Conducted by the Fire & Police Commission or other agencies. PASS or FAIL.
6. Polygraph Examination: The examination will be administered by a registered polygraph examiner. PASS or FAIL.
7. Medical Examinations: Following an offer of employment, an applicant will submit to a post-offer medical examination supervised by a licensed physician appointed by the Fire & Police Commission. A drug urine screen test will be required as part of the medical examination. An in-depth Psychological examination will be performed by a licensed Psychologist. PASS or FAIL
Applicants are not guaranteed employment with the Fire Department or by the Village of Lake Zurich; employment is conditional based on passing the post-offer medical examinations and drug screen.Regulations governing testing and eligibility are set forth in the Lake Zurich Fire & Police Rules and Regulations. The Fire & Police Commission reserves the right to schedule these exams and tests in sequence other than as stated above. The final list terminates no later than two (2) years from the date of posting. Candidates will be selected in rank order from the list according to excellence.
Preference Points: Any requests for preference points must include documentation and be submitted on FORM 5 of the Lake Zurich Fire & Police Commission Rules and Regulations. Please see FORM 4 of the Lake Zurich Fire & Police Commission Rules and Regulations for further information.
1) Veteran’s Preference Points - Maximum points allowed for this section shall be five (5) points. Applicants who served in the United States military actively for at least one year and who were honorably discharged or are now on inactive or reserve duty shall receive five (5) preference points. Proof of such service must include a copy of Military Form DD-214 (long form) as proof of active service, evidence of the honorable discharge, and a sworn affidavit by the applicant.
2) Educational Preference Points - Maximum points allowed for this section shall be five (5) points. Applicants who have successfully obtained an associate’s degree in the field of fire service, or emergency medical services, or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university shall receive five (5) points. A copy of a diploma must be included as proof of the attainment of the degree
3) Residency Preference Points - Maximum points allowed for this section shall be two (2) points. Applicants whose principal residence is currently located within the Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District or Village of Lake Zurich boundaries shall receive two (2) preference points. (Proof of residency is required – Evidence of residency examples are: copy of utility bills, driver’s license, and/or signed residency lease.)
4) Fire Cadet Preference Points - Maximum points allowed for this section shall be five (5) points. Applicants who have successfully completed 2 years of study in fire techniques or cadet training within a cadet program established under the rules of the Joint Labor and Management Committee (JLMC) shall receive five (5) preference points.
5) Experience Preference Points - Maximum points allowed for this section shall be five (5) points.
a) Any applicant who was employed as a full-time certified Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter for at least two (2) years at another fire protection district or municipality shall be awarded one-half (½) points for each year up to a maximum of two and one-half (2.5) points.
b) Any applicant who was employed as a full-time certified Firefighter III/Advanced level shall receive two (2) points.
c) Applicants who have successfully completed two years of appointment with the Village of Lake Zurich Fire Explorer Program shall receive five (5) points. (Letter from current Explorer Advisor confirming participation and point eligibility required).
d) Applicants who have successfully completed the Lake County High School Technology Campus program in either Fire Fighting or Emergency Medical Services shall receive two (2) points. (A letter from the director of the program at the college on the college letterhead is required as proof.
No experience preference points will be awarded to an applicant for service with a private employer who had a contract for fire or ambulance service with a fire protection district or municipality.
6) Additional Preference - Maximum points allowed for this section shall be five (5) points.
Applicants who are currently licensed, at the time of application, as Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) and have obtained Full Advanced Life Support (ALS) privileges within the Northwest Community Emergency Medical Services System (NWC EMSS) shall receive five (5) points. (Applicants are required to submit proof of full ALS privileges.)
