Job Classification: Communications Operator

The Lima Civil Service Board announces an open and competitive examination for
the position of COMMUNICATIONS OPERATOR (EMERGENCY DISPATCHER). Candidates must take the ECOMM National exam through NTN
(www.nationaltestingnetwork.com) and complete the Candidate PHQ (Personal
History Questionnaire). To be considered, candidates MUST also complete the
Typing Simulation and Computer Skills Test by logging in to your account portal.

Candidates must also complete the Lima Civil Service Application located at
https://www.cityhall.lima.oh.us/FormCenter/Human-Resources-8/APPLICATION-FOR-CIVIL-SERVICE-EMPLOYMENT-117

Continuous Testing: The City of Lima offers CONTINUOUS TESTING.
Candidates who pass the exam with 70% or higher will be certified to the eligible
list.

Rate of Pay: $27.20 per hour

Vouchers: Residents of Allen Co, OH may receive a voucher to cover the cost
of the entry-level exam. Candidates must show proof of residency.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under general supervision, provides dispatching for police and fire departments; performs communications functions; prepares and maintains department records; performs computer data entry functions; establishes and maintains external relationships; maintains personal and professional competence and awareness.

QUALIFICATIONS: The training, education and work experience which indicate
possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below.
The minimum acceptable qualifications for this position are:

Completion of high school education or equivalent
Post-secondary coursework in related field
One (1) year of work experience involving public contact
Must be able to exercise independent judgement
Type a minimum of 35 – 40 wpm
Must pass Civil Service Examination for this position
L.E.A.D.S. Certification (Must obtain within 12 months after appointment)
