Position Title: Patrol Officer
Application Requirements and Process
The City of Bedford Civil Service Commission will be establishing a list of candidates for the position of Patrol Officer for the City of Bedford Police Department. The written test will be administered through the National Testing Network (NTN) at www.nationaltestingnetwork.com.
A copy of the candidate’s Driver’s License and High School Diploma or GED are required to be uploaded at NTN.
The City of Bedford Civil Service Commission will be awarding additional points for the following:
· City of Bedford Residency (1 Point)
· Military Service (2 Points) Copy of DD214 form with honorable discharge and re-entry eligibility code that reflects this status. The following military re-entry codes will not be acceptable for additional points, including, but not limited to RE- 4R, most RE-3's and some RE-2's.
· Ohio Peace Officer Training Certificate within the last two years (1 point) or documentation of law enforcement employment within the last two years (pay stub or letter from employer) (2 points) (capped at 2 points).
· Associate (1 Point) or Bachelor’s degree (2 Points) from an accredited university (capped at 2 points).
All candidates must provide copies of the above transcripts, certificates, and proof of residency to receive additional points.

Eligible candidates will be required to successfully complete an extensive background investigation, physical agility testing, polygraph examination, psychological examination, drug testing, personal interview, and medical exam.

Salary Information: The salary for new officers is $72,571, but the starting salary for experienced officers is commensurate with full-time equivalent years of service. The salary includes six-month step increases until the maximum salary of $86,653 at three years. Candidates with 3 years or more of experience start at the top salary.
Benefit Information: The department offers paid holidays, vacation time, sick time, and personal time. Additional bonuses include firearms proficiency, clothing allowance, education reimbursement, longevity, nightshift shift differential, and the ability to work out on-duty.

Department Overview
The City of Bedford is a southeast suburb of the City of Cleveland. The Bedford Police Department is comprised of the Chief of Police, Deputy Chief, two Lieutenants, four Sergeants, five Detectives, and twenty-one Patrol Officers. Officers hold assignments in several specialized units including a Motorcycle Unit, Bicycle Unit, and School Resource Officer. The Bedford Police Department is also a member of Southeast Area Law Enforcement (SEALE), and has several members assigned to the SEALE SWAT Team, Bomb Squad, Narcotics Unit, Crisis Intervention Unit, Crash Investigation Team, and Missing Persons Unit. Bedford Police Officers also hold assignments with the United States Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task and the FBI Cleveland Cartel Gang Narcotics and Laundering Task Force.
The Bedford Police Departments also offers an extensive in-service training program that includes monthly firearms training, defensive tactics training, EVOC, and force on force training to include munitions.
