Position Title: Firefighter

Salary Information: $82,451 after three years

Additional Credit

Department Overview

The Maple Heights Fire Department proudly serves the City of 25,000 residents with 24/7 fire protection and emergency medical service. Staffing consists of 36 full-time sworn members who are state-certified firefighters and paramedics. Operating out of two stations, the department responds to over 6,000 calls for service with two engines and two ALS squads. Highly motivated individuals will enjoy a fast-paced environment where their skills will frequently be used.

Necessary Certifications: This is an entry-level opportunity, and all interested individuals are encouraged to apply; however, candidates already certified as Firefighter II and/or Paramedic may receive stronger consideration.
Additional Requirements: Fire cadets will be required to successfully complete, at their own expense, the physical agility test administered by Cuyahoga Community College or Auburn Career Center. Certificates issued to successful candidates will be valid and accepted for a period of one year following the date of the physical agility test.

Job Description

This position involves firefighting and EMS work on a 24 hours on/48 hours off rotating shift. Work requires demanding physical effort. The position of firefighter is an inherently dangerous and stressful position. Dangers inherent in the work can be only partially controlled through preventive measures. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Company Officer such as a Lieutenant or Captain.

Principal Responsibilities

Respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents and provide services as required including emergency medical, rescue, and fire suppression.
Prepare EMS reports.
Drive fire apparatus and operate fire apparatus.
Operate numerous types of fire/rescue/EMS equipment.
Inspect, repair and perform other tasks related to maintaining the apparatus, equipment, and facilities.
Participate in cleaning and maintaining facilities, equipment and apparatus; assist in general care and maintenance of the fire station.
Ensure that all equipment and apparatus is in a constant state of readiness for emergency calls.
Use departmental computer equipment to input, review and access records, information and other various data.
Conduct and participate in firefighting and EMS training classes.
Give tours of the facility and participate in other educational programs and public relations events.
Perform other related job duties and related job tasks as assigned by upper level supervisory staff.
