Job Classification: Firefighter/Paramedic
Darien-Woodward Fire Protection District is currently building an ongoing eligibility list. Candidates are required to complete the NTN Fireteam exam, PSSA, and PHQ.
In addition to the above, candidates are required to upload the below documents via their NTN account homepage.
Required Documents:
· High School Diploma
· Valid driver’s license
· Birth record as proof of citizenship
The following documents are accepted as proof of citizenship:
§ COPY of U.S. County/State-Issued Birth Record
§ COPY of Valid U.S. Passport
§ COPY of Naturalization Papers
o Hospital-issued birth certificates are not verifiable, and therefore cannot be accepted.
· IDPH paramedic license
· OSFM Basic Operations Firefighter /Firefighter II certificate
Salary Information:
· Starting salary of $66,976.10, which includes a 6% paramedic stipend.
· Topping after 5 years, current top pay is $99,414.22.
· Employees are also eligible for an additional educational stipend up to a maximum of 7%.

Hiring Process:
Candidates receiving an offer of employment must successfully pass post-offer screenings including but not limited to a background investigation; and medical examination, including vision and drug screen.
Additional Requirements:
Successful completion of a Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) with Ladder Climb Certification conducted by a licensed agency within twelve (12) months prior to a conditional offer of employment.
Firefighter Minimum Requirements:
· US Citizenship
· No Felony Convictions
· Valid Driver’s License
· High School Diploma or Equivalent
· 21 to 35 years of age by date of hire unless otherwise exempt by statute
· OSFM Illinois Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter Certificate by date of application
· IDPH Paramedic License by date of application
· Successful completion of a Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) with Ladder Climb Certification conducted by a licensed agency within twelve (12) months before a conditional offer of employment.
Preference Points:
After the Initial Eligibility List is created, candidates who are eligible for preference and preference points may submit a claim for these points in writing to the Board of Fire Commissioners on its standard form (Form A, available upon request).This claim must be made within ten (10) days after the posting if the Initial Eligibility List or the preference will be deemed waived when the Final Eligibility Register is prepared. Applicants may claim the following:
(A) Veteran’s Preference - Applicants who served in the United States military actively for at least one year and who were honorably discharged or are now on inactive or reserve duty shall receive preference points for original appointment by adding to the final grade received five (5) preference points. Proof of such service must include a copy of Military Form DD 214 (long form) as proof of active service, evidence of the honorable discharge and an affidavit by the applicant (see Form A).
(B) Education Preference Points - Applicants who have successfully obtained an associate’s degree in the field of law enforcement, criminal justice, fire service, or emergency medical services, or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university may claim five (5) points. A copy of a diploma must be included with the request for preference points as proof of the attainment of degree and an affidavit by the applicant (Forms will be provided upon request).
(C) Experience Preference Points - Candidates who have, at the date the claim is made, been currently employed for one year or more by an Illinois municipal fire department or fire protection district as a firefighter may claim 2.5 points. No experience preference points will be awarded to applicants for service with a private employer which had a contract for fire or ambulance service with a fire protection district or municipality. Proof of such service must include submission of copies of applicable certifications and an affidavit by the applicant (Forms will be provided upon request). Note that proof of service may be verified by the District. A candidate may not receive the full amount of preference points under this subsection if the number of points awarded would place the candidate before a veteran on the eligibility list. If more than one candidate receiving experience preference points is prevented from receiving all of their points due to not being allowed to pass a veteran, the candidates shall be placed on the list below the veteran in rank order based on the total received if all points under this subsection were to be awarded. Any remaining ties on the list shall be determined by lot.

Department Overview:
The Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District employs 41 full-time sworn members and one full-time Administrative Assistant. The Fire District operates out of two stations and answers approximately 3,500 calls for service each year. The headquarters station, Station 89, houses a Ladder/Truck Company, an ALS ambulance, and the Battalion Chief along with the administration. Station 90 houses an Engine Company, an ALS ambulance, and brush truck. Both stations are staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. As a member of MABAS Division 16, personnel have opportunities to join the Technical Rescue, Hazardous Materials, Fire Investigation, and Dive Teams

The Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District services southern DuPage County which includes portions of Woodridge, Darien, and unincorporated Downers Grove. The Fire District also services portions of Interstate 55 and Tollway I-355.
