Job Classification: Police Officer

The Albany Police Department is currently hiring Police Officers. Candidates are required to complete the NTN Frontline exam & PSSA.

While enrolled in the Academy, Police Recruits will be paid an hourly rate of $37.25. Once appointed to the position of Police Officer, the following salary range will apply and the following incentive pay will become available.

Police Officer Base Salary (including holiday in-lieu): $105,493-$141,372

With incentives salary

$135,031-$180,956
*Incentives include POST certificates, college degrees, bilingual pay, longevity pay and night shift.

Benefits
While attending the Academy, Recruits and their eligible dependents will be eligible for CalPERS Health Insurance with a 100% City contribution up to the Kaiser Region 1 family rate, and will be enrolled in our CalPERS Retirement Plan as Miscellaneous Classic 2% at 60 or PEPRA 2% at 62. Once appointed to the position of Police Officer, the following benefits will apply:

Retirement

CalPERS Classic Sworn: 3% @ 55 retirement formula
CalPERS PEPRA Sworn: 2.7% @ 57 formula

Health Insurance

The City offers a choice of medical plans through the CalPERS Medical Program. The City aligns its contribution rates with CalPERS Kaiser Region 1 premium.
Employees who have minimum essential medical coverage through another source may elect to waive enrollment in the City's medical plan and elect the alternative benefit. Employees will receive elective paid leave that is cashed out each quarter.

Academy Participant/Recent Graduate candidates must also:

Be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a California POST Academy; AND
Possess a T-Score of 45 or higher on the California POST Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery. POST assessment results are valid within one year (12 months) from the date that the test was administered. Or
Pass the National Testing Network (NTN) - Law Enforcement Test: The written test may be waived for applicants with a recently achieved minimum passing score for each section: Video: 65%, Writing: 65%, and Reading: 65%. The score letter must be dated within the last 12 months (from the date of the test).NTN offers the Law Enforcement Test online. Lateral candidates must also:

Be a current full-time Police Officer; AND
Possess a California POST Basic Certificate or Certificate of completion from an accredited California POST-certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy awarded or renewed within the previous consecutive thirty-six months at time of application.

California POST Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB)

Qualifying score minimum: T-Score of 45
Assessment results are valid within one year (12 months) from the date the test was administered. Applicants must submit their PELLETB scores on official letterhead from an approved training institution with their application. OR

Pass the National Testing Network (NTN) - Law Enforcement Test: The written test may be waived for applicants with a recently achieved minimum passing score for each section: Video: 65%, Writing: 65% and Reading: 65%. The score letter must be dated within the last 12 months (from the date of the test).NTN offers the Law Enforcement Test online. Physical Agility Testing: The Physical Agility Test may be done at a later date during the interview process. However, applicants may submit a minimum score of 384 on the POST Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB) offered at another institution if they have it already. Assessment results are valid within one year (12 months) from the date the test was administered and must be provided on official letterhead from an approved training institution. Testing must be completed at a regional law enforcement training center.
