Position Title: Police Officer (Full-Time)

Salary Information: Approximately $45,000 - $64,000 + benefits & shift differential.
As an incentive to all applicants, any successful candidate who receives an offer of employment and is hired by the City of Warren will receive Retention Bonus Installments totalling $10,000 and Full Reimbursement for OPOTA (Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy) coursework and certification. Both are contingent upon a 5-year employment commitment with the City of Warren.

Job Requirements
Age: Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age but no more than forty (40) years of age at time of appointment.US Citizen: Must be a citizen of the United States of America or have legally declared his/her intention of becoming so.High School Grad/GED: Must be a High School Graduate or have a G.E.D.Valid State Driver’s License: Must possess a valid driver’s license.Ability to Read/Speak English: Must have the ability to read/speak English.Vision (i.e. 20/20): Must be correctable to 20/20College: Not requiredAcademy Certification: Must be OPOTA Certified at time of appointment.Prior Experience: Not required.Additional Requirements:Must possess a current and valid certificate of successful completion of either the police officer physical agility test issued by Cuyahoga Community College or an OPOTA certificate obtained within one (1) year prior to the date of application. There may be a fee to take such an agility test for which the applicant will be responsible.
Hiring Process:Entry-Level Police Officer candidates must successfully pass the NTN entrance exam with a minimum score of 70%. The Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA) and Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) must also be submitted. Applicants who pass the NTN exam will be required to provide a current and valid certificate of successful completion of either, the police officer physical agility test (PAT) issued by Cuyahoga Community College, or an OPOTA certificate obtained within one (1) year prior to the date of application. Applicants will be ranked in order of their passing scores with qualifying additional credits factored in.The Warren Police Department’s screening process for qualifying Police Officer applicants will include the following:
- Background Screening- Polygraph Test- Drug Screening- Psychological Evaluation- Physical Exam- Panel Interview
Additional Credits Allowed for the NTN Entrance Examination:
1. Any veteran, resident of Ohio, who has served more than 180 days of consecutive duty in the Armed Forced and has received an honorable discharge, will receive an additional credit of 20% of his/her total score on the NTN examination after receiving a passing grade on that examination.
2. Anyone who has completed 2,080 hours of employment as a law enforcement officer for a state(s) and/or any political subdivision(s) of a State shall receive an additional 20% credit of his/her total score on the NTN examination after receiving a passing grade on that examination.
3. Anyone who has received from an accredited college or university as associate degree, or equivalent, including at least twenty (20) quarter units or thirteen (13) semester units of police science courses, criminal justice courses, or law enforcement courses, shall receive an additional credit of ten (10%) of his/her total score on the NTN examination after receiving a passing grade on that examination.
4. Anyone who has graduated from an accredited college or university with at least a baccalaureate degree, including at least forty-five (45) quarter units or thirty (30) semester units of police science courses, criminal justice courses, or law enforcement courses, shall receive an additional credit of 20% of his/her total score on the NTN examination after receiving a passing grade on that examination.
Passing grade for this written examination has been established at 70%.NOTE: Regardless of the credits provided for above, twenty [20%] percent of a passing score shall be the maximum combined bonus points or credits that one person may earn on the NTN examination.
Potential Disqualifiers:
An applicant’s prior criminal activity, driving history, drug use, employment history, and financial/credit standing will be considered and could potentially disqualify the applicant for employment with the City of Warren.
