The Village of Winthrop Harbor Police Department is currently accepting applications to build an eligibility list for the positions of full time entry-level Police Officer.
Entry level candidates must complete all testing through NTN by 6/6/25 and complete an application and release of information form for the Village of Winthrop Harbor WHPD Police Officer Application .
You will be tested on 3 portions (Video, Reading & Writing) and must pass each portion. An average score of all 3 portions will be determined. The Winthrop Harbor Police Commission has set a cutoff score of 70%. Scores will be available to view in your NTN account within 2-3 days.

Necessary Certifications:
Must obtain a Physical Agility Test Card (POWER test) through NIPSTA, Joliet Junior College, Triton College, or other ILETSB-certified physical testing facilities no more than one year prior to the date of application.
Application Process:
Applicants are required to complete the Village of Winthrop Harbor police officer application online at WHPD Police Officer Application. Incomplete applications will be rejected. The following documents are required to be uploaded to the NTN:
Candidates must pass the written exam and an interview with the board of the fire and police commissioners to be placed on the initial eligibility lists.
Education/military points are then solicited and added to the list resulting in the final eligibility list.
As positions become available, candidate background investigations, including polygraph exam,s are conducted and reviewed by the board of fire and police commissioners.
If conditional offers of employment are extended, candidates must pass a psychological assessment, physical exams, and drug screening prior to hiring.
The Village of Winthrop Harbor is a drug-free workplace, including marijuana. Candidates will be subject to a pre-employment drug screen, physical and background check post offer.
Preference Points
VETERAN'S POINTS
Applicants who were engaged in the military or naval service of the United States for a period of at least one year and who were honorably discharged there from, or who are not on may thereafter be on inactive or reserve duty in such military or naval service (not including, however, in the case of offices, positions and places of employment in the police department, persons who were convicted by court-martial of disobedience of orders, where such disobedience consisted in the refusal to perform military service on the ground of religious or conscientious objections against war) shall receive five (5) points. Proof of such service must include a copy of Military Form DD-214 (long form) as proof of active service, evidence of the honorable discharge, and sworn affidavit by the applicant.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE PREFERENCE POINTS
Applicants who have successfully obtained an associate's degree in the field of law enforcement, criminal justice, or a bachelor's degree from an accredited college shall receive five (5) points provided that the applicant has not received Veteran's preference points. A certified transcript must be included with the request for preference points as proof of the attainment of a degree.
(Veterans and education preference points shall not be cumulative)
